MAP sensor or AFM version? My AFM was about 8psi standard, about 10psi with a 165mm pulley, and about 12psi with a 175mm pulley.

Hey guys just got a 4agze to put in my ae82, what sorta boost do these run with the stock pulley?

7-8psi standard boost from a afm GZE, the SC pulley is slightly smaller on the later models (ae92 and ae101) so hence ran more boost from factory...maybe 9-10psi

i had a AE92 Map version, stock pulley's.. and a smallish tube and fin cooler, with 2" piping.. NO lag, as some people have experienced with front mounts..
after doing that little abv disable thing with the T peice and vac lines, mine ran at peak (dyno confirmed) 10.44 psi.. on my boost gauge which read a little higher (and was in bar so it was hard to get exactly right) but mine would run that boost no problems in the peak of 40 deg traffic summer heat in brisvegas..
have to say though.. you might notice a little less boost if you run the enginebay mounted interwarmer..
Sorry its the afm version, I dnt have an intercooler at the moment but am looking for a stock one and gona do a water spray set up to spray water mixed with metho onto the cooler to keep intake temps down when giving it a belting![]()

those serpintine coolers they run are pretty shithouse.. just invest in a cheap ally chinese core you can pick up for as low as $120!! brand new.. will be heaps better than a 20+ year old design.. and they are made from ally unlike those old lugs of crap..
sorry but can you see how much i really hate them!?
2nd the china core, are you going to run top or front mount? Also, beware of running without one...I recorded intake temps of 90-100deg at the outlet of the SC (I think...I remember being terrified with how high it was)

Im thinking top mount cause there's not a lot of room in my front bar
Im gona have one before the engines in I don't wana run it without a cooler

look up justjap.com

... ive used a couple of those long thin cores on a couple of conversions.. just sorta fold up a cardboard box in similar dimentions and fiddle around with the sizes you need.. there is a fair amount of room in the front if you get rid of the bonnet latch support and make a new one, OR make the cooler itself take the flex from the rad support panel like on my old starlet.. (this cooler is waaaaaaay over kill, but i was planning on a TD04L upgrade at the time..) but you can sit the cooler under there a fair bit.. that is a HUUUUUGE cooler on that little tiny GT starlet.. yet i fit the whole front bar, and grill on no worries at all

That looks hot dude!
Being a 2nd year apprentice I dnt have stacks of cash floating aroundwhat would be better to go a fmic or tmic?
Also should I swap anything over from the engines? Like cams valves etc? There both stock but the one in the car atm is a bigport not sure what the gze is though

front mount for sure.. best just do save a couple more weeks and do it properly from someone that can actually weld.. i've seen some abortions in my time and honestly can't belive how many 'workshops' let shit leave that is just sooo bustard arse..
Yeah, agreed. Otherwise, weld it yourself (if you're competent) and wrap it in heat wrap
But take some time to plan it out, where you're going to run the piping, where everything will mount, etc, and make sure that nothing is lower than the front bar, and don't cut into the reo-bar...big no-no

if the gze is a smallport you can throw the cams from the bigport into it as they have a slightly better cams in them from stock. and yep definately go front mount they cool the intake temps quite a bit better just for the fact it has better airflow then top mounts.
some info with stock 16v 4AG/ZE cames - all GZE's run the 'smallport' cams, even the bigport GZE's...
smallport/all GZE cams/bigport 7rib MR2 - 232 duration (adv) 7.1mm lift,
bigport cams (3 RIB AE82/AE86 version ONLY) - 240 duration (adv) 7.56mm lift,
if you can be bothered with swapping around a handfull of shims and checking clearences, it might be worth a few kw.. but nothing like a normal 'mild' cam regrind would give..
thats at least what i have experienced over the years.. hope that helps some pple out, there may be some bigport MR2's that ran the older style cams, but i don't think anyone will ever know.. the cams themselfs don't have any part numbers on them, but if you have a feel of the nose with your fingers comparing the two side by side, you can actually feel the ramp and nose difference with the bigger cam, sounds silly but you can..
best thing i reckon you can do for a GZE, is a front mount, nice set of extractors, and run a bigger throttle body! like a 4AGE, or 3SGE gen 2 has the same idle speed control as a MAP GZE, not sure about the AFM GZE versions havn't really touched many of them purley cos i despise toyota attempt at a AFM in those days.. you need to port out the S/C intake pipe that the TB sits on.. i wrote up a bit of a speel about this on the old forums maybe 4-5 years ago..
Okay sweet, yea ill probably swap over the cams then I didn't know there was that much difference between the 2, I've already got a set of huricane headers with 2.25 inch mandrel bent exhaust straight through cat n a sports muffler so that's staying and should hopefully beef it up a bit
