    Default 2000 Corolla Fast Idle??

    HI all,
    My GF's 2000 toyota corolla has a really fast idle speed and i cannot work out how to adjust it. It is a manual, has about 125k on it. She has owned it for about 6 months and it has done it the whole time. It happens both when the engine is cold and at operating temperature. It does not over-heat though.
    Any help would be great! Thanks.

    chrisco, the adjustment is probably NOT out. There are a number of things that can cause a high idle problem

    a, Vacuum leak from perished or dislodged hose. Spray carbie cleaner at all hose junctions and listen for a change in engine RPM.

    b, Dirtly Idle Air Control Valve (ISCV) Disassemble, clean and lube.

    c, Dirty throttle boby, caused by the engine regurgitating crankcase fumes, which are directed to the throttle body from the Positive Crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve. Throttle body/carby cleaner will sort this out.

    Start with these, and see how you get on.

    check that the air conditioning is switched off
    same thing happened to me when i was a mechanic, after servicing i thought WTF.

    The idle speed isn't adjustable, at least not by hand. Most modern motors have the idle speeds adjusted by the aforementioned ISCV (Idle Speed Control Valve) which attaches to the throttle body. The 7A is no different. Pull the connector off and check you're getting the right voltages and resistances across the pins (Gregorys manual will give you the numbers)
