    Default EP71 1NZFE Conversion?

    Hey Guys,

Doesn't look like this has been done before but is it possible to fit the 1.5l 1nzfe+gbox from an echo into an ep71 starlet? just tossing the idea around as an alternative to the usual 4efte that goes into these cars.

problems im guessing that would arise:

    engine mounts
    ecu
    driveshafts
clearance for headers as their positioned at the back
fuel system as the 1nz runs a returnless system

    and from here http://www.toymods.net/forums/showpo...10&postcount=1
alternator in front of inlet manifold (although this is a fwd application would this cause a problem?)

Can't really think of anything else, anyone else have any suggestions?

It's probably possible, but I can't see the advantage, except possibly lower fuel consumption? I've also got a feeling that the ECU will be wired into the dash/display etc, might be a pain to wire up..

The echo is a slow, boring thing to begin with, I'd think a standard starlet is probably more fun...the 4EFTE makes a lot more power, and I *think* is a drop in conversion?

thanks for the reply mullet, forgot about the display sensors and what not but your right the 4efte drops right in with the use of all the 2t mounts from what i've read.

thought it would of been different(and newer) with the 1nz as i thought the pistons from the prius would fit and give me 13.0:1 compression with forged rods out of the prius as well.

looks like more trouble than what its worth tho

haha, absolutely. You could spend a fortune on the motor, but I'd be amazed if you got past the 100hp at the wheels that the 4E-FTE would give you standard...and it'd drive like a pig, no low end torque.

4efte man, just do it and be happy.

If you were after economy even just the 4efe or 5efe/he would be easier/cheaper.. if you want power, stock 4efte + t25/td04 = more than enough for your ep71. They are very light afterall

If you want a 4efte pm me, we have an immaculate one for a good price.

Could just do what the 2zz owners do when they go turbo. Custom fuel rail, FPR, some hose and modify the fuel pump to accept the return line and bypass the in-tank regulator.

I'm with the others in saying the 1nz isn't a motor for power.

you can just modify the end of the stock fuel rail and weld/braze a fitting onto it, then use a SARD regulator and set the base pressure to 43psi static.

Mount wise, if the EP71 uses a C series box you're in luck, as the 1nz does too. In that case you only need to do a custom timing cover mount and you can utilise your stock EP71 driveshafts. Headers will need to be custom to clear the driveshaft and steering rack. Depending on where you get the engine/ECU from you may also have to deal with the engine immobiliser built into the Australian ECU's. You can get around this by going with a JDM ECU, or with an aftermarket ECU. The Vipec/Link G4 supports the 1nz and has excellent vvti control, here's another 1nz powered by a Vipec V44: http://viosturbo.blogspot.com/2009/0...yota-vios.html

I'd personally be measuring the height and width available in the bay to see if it's possible to fit a 1zzfe or 2zzge. 100kw atw is a pretty easy task for a NA 1zzfe with aftermarket management and headers, the 1zz shouldn't cost anymore than a 1nz either. A stock-internals 1zzfe with low-boost turbo setup will push out about 140kw atw too, here's one I did in Brisbane: http://users.tpg.com.au/adsl0uxv/1zz/1zzfte_dyno1.jpg
