    Default TA22 Ignition?

Hey folks! Haven't posted for a while here, how's everyone been?

I've been using my TA22 as a daily since I put it all back together after the respray and whatnot, but I got in it yesterday, didn't get 1km from home when the engine just died. Cut out just like you'd turned the ignition off. Started up straight away again no worries, did it again after 50 metres or so. Let it sit for 30 seconds or so while I thought what it could be, started it up right away again and turned it around and drove home, died once on the way home starting up fine again.

Initially I thought it might be a fuel issue but the fact that it didn't cough and splutter like I presume it would, makes me lean towards the fact that it could be the 35 year old ignition coil...

Once I get my uni exams out the way at the end of the month I'll have some time to look at it and give the car some loving like it deserves...in our brand new shed

In the meantime, I'd be interested to know what you guys think.

    Cheers guys (and girls)!
    Keep it shiny side up.

Possibly the ballast resistor on the coil. Loose wire connection, these old toys are getting just that, old.

    cheers Chuck.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention,

I'm fairly confident it isn't the ballast resistor - I only put a new one on about six months ago. Also checked for loose connections.

How long since you replaced your fuel filter? When i've had spark issues the car has definitely coughed and spluttered.

when it cuts out again check the sight glass on the carby.
it should be at the halfway point.
but i think your right, it should splutter down to a grinding hault...
or perhaps your ignition switch has worn contacts, when its cutting out fiddle with the key a little and see if the motor picks up again or backfires

ignition coils either work or don't work, so i'd rule that out....

Check your low tension circuit from the coil all the way to the points, could be tatty and earthing out.

I had the same issue, it was a faulty wire to my taco, it would work fine for ages and then just die, or just wouldnt start, took me ages to figure it out, but after much decifering (sp) replaced the wire to the taco from the coil. and she worked fine, and hasnt stopped since.

alternatively when replacing the coil, you may have just moved the wire the right way inorder to repair any internal brake. if so it's just a matter of time before you reach into your engine bay to change your oil filter and find it doesnt start after your service,

    Good luck
