Default 1uz CNC Head Porting - PICS!

Just a quick couple of photos and numbers from some head porting a guy i know has been doing lately... the plan is to make it a commercially viable, core exchange type of thing, but for the time being, these are the first pics of the worlds only CNC mapped and ported 1uz heads (regular heads too... not vvti)

heads were flowed stock, then cut into slices and the galleries/limits of the ports were mapped out. the heads were then hand ported, and flowed, and following this, the optimised ports were CNC mapped, and the ports then replacated with the CNC mill on a virgin head. full thread: http://www.v-eight.com/tech_forum/vi....php?f=4&t=919

I don't want to sound negative, but I guess if no one criticises then you can never improve...

    @ 2mm - extra 27cfm / 23cfm (is this to help reversion during overlap ? lol......)
    @ 7mm - extra 18cfm / 19cfm (ok)
    @ 13mm - extra 56cfm / 30cfm (ok)

If all he improved was mid and high lift flow, I would not hesitate to recommend his service to anyone.

And to put things in perspective, most porters are still able to reduce low lift flow and substantially improve mid and high lift numbers on the latest Cylinder heads (ports) coming out from OEM, so I don't see why he couldn't do the same if he wants to.

It is just sad to see someone invest so much time and resources into a final product many people will not be able to recommend to those after the particular service.

depends entirely on the cam phasing and intake harmonics doesnt it

edit - and dont be thinking these are a 'street cam' head, so any notion of low/mod lift flow on mid range engine function for good streetability is rather senseless

being CNC it can offer consistent replication of results, so if there IS a real reversion phenomena on the preliminary motors that is related to port flow (and cam phase timing doesnt improve things), a minor alteration to the cnc model can address the problem with minimal fuss

I'm actually a fan of CNC porting, due to accuracy and ability to transfer between 3D Cam to simulations, so don't get me wrong there.

I'm not interested in to arguing the point either, just stating that there has been a recent trend in the past 4+ years to reducing sub 0.250" intake port flow at the US NHRA and other top levels with many back to back results always showing a positive improvement... and when you look at the cam area at those lift numbers in respect to overall cam area and where this cam area falls in relation to the running of an IC engine, this trend makes logical sense.

I sincerely hope the person does do another Head which follows this trend and at least runs a back to back dyno test, so that if indeed his original Head makes more power and across a broader power band, then he can at least use that as proof to help sell his original CNC design. I also will then happily recommend his service to everyone and anyone as will others.

Is there much core shift on the 1UZ heads?

Merely curious as to what tolerances the late model Toyota gear is machined to, compared to others.
