I'd say the ra40 cable would probably suit the 18rg. The pedal definately will..

I know the sigma one is pretty flexible, but the ra40 might be a nice swap.

    Guys,

Which model RA40 has a cable throttle assembly?

RA40 round headlights or RA40 rectangular headlights?

    Regards

A bit of a rhetorical question posed by me.

As far as I knew RA40s had mechanical linkages just like previous Celicas.

    Unless otherwise proved by anyone.

Just a little addition, if you want to change to cable but want to keep the stock pedal (say you buy a half cut and want to use the factory cable)

You can use a short piece (1cm) of copper rod about 10mm in diameter and drill a hole 4/5 of the way through the side of it the same size as the pin on the original pedal and a small locator hole on the opposite side. and a hole the same size as the cable in the end. Solder the cable in the end of the copper and use the factory clip (holds the rod link setup to the pedal) to attach it. I suck at descriptions so here is a picture (thanks MSPAINT).

If you want to run cable throttle on an 18RG or similar engine with intake on the DRIVERS side of the car, grab an RA65 pedal. You'll be able to bolt the pedal to the floor by redrilling a single hole into the RA65 mount so it matches the original RA23 pattern.

The cable itself should come out quite close to the existing hole in the firewall, mine was slightly lower, so I drilled a new pivot about an inch higher on the RA65 pedal and it was perfect. You'll also need to bend the pedal inwards slightly for a better foot position and possibly out some more to give you more throw.

The cable itself should give you an almost perfect length to a set of twin solex's or the 18RGEU Throttle body. EFI should be a matter of clipping it in, solex's will require a bit thinking but not a whole lot, I simply haven't got the engine in the car yet so I cannot attach it.

It would be a good idea to fabricate some form of stopper so that the pedal throw stops before it pulls on the cable too hard too. This pedal is also a normal sized pedal, not the massive bottom pivot type like the standard RA23.

    Just my 2c

    willwal98,

I'll have to try that one. Maybe one step better to using the inner cable locking bolt that I use for my kits which relies on a split pin to stop it from coming out of the pedal top.

It would mean I can use a ball attachment at both ends, but for me I would have no adjustment of the inner cable length. Kind of just talked myself out of it.

You could always drill the locating hole out a little bit more and thread it for a grub screw. This would give you adjustment. I used it when I fit my EFI RG so the attachment at the engine side was adjustable. The other thing you could do is have the adjustment on the outer casing where it locates at either end just have threaded bolt with a hole down the center (or a groove down the side). Bit hard to explain, i'll do a pic if you are interested. Would mean the cable would have to be close to start with though.
