By engine open close relay do you mean the Circuit Opening Relay? Sounds exactly like that relay isn't working properly, it should latch open after ignition to keep the pump running after the engine has started
hey all you tech guru's i have a little issue with a 4age i have been helping my friend build
problem: when i turn the key to engine ready phase (reds) all is normal i have power at the coil and ecu has power i then turn the key to start the engine turns over nicely it fires and then we get ignition as that happens i leg go of the key back to reds for the car to run then the engine will run for only a moment before stalling i have run a test light on the fuel pumps and they turn off when the key is let go from the start phase what would be the cause for the fuel pumps to turn off
i have noted that the engine open close relay will click when i turn the key to start the car and then click again when i let go of the key to let the car run ( aka stall)
would this be an issue with the wiring in the engine open close relay?
cheers all
mat
(note i have done a search google on this forum and on others an not the exact problem i am facing help would be great as i am stumped)

Circuit Opening Relay thank you my mistake well you think this could be caused by a faulty relay i will try another relay as i have 1 spare
Just check the COR is connected properly too. It should have two triggers, one from the key in the start position, and the second either from the AFM (if it has one) or the ECU (FC pin on the 4As I've seen).
There's an article about CORs on here called "your friend the circuit opening relay" or something similar. May help with wiring, if that's to blame.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.
ok i have a pinout diag and for some reason 1 of the wires that holds the relay closed after the ignition stage is done is hooked upto the stop lamp is this correct?
As Hen said, the FC pin from the ECU holds it on. This link gives a nice clear picture and notes. This is what I used when doing mine.

the pin puts out a negative signal, check it with a test light, get a mate to try start it, see if light stays on, if it does its a relay problem, if it goes out thats why your circuit open relay isnt staying on. Prob ECU issue
found problem the pin on the ecu wasn't pushed all the way in was a bees whisker from making contact all sorted thanks all for the help
