Default 3t-gte Running Wayyyyyyyyyyy To Rich?

My 3t-GTE in my rona is running rich i belive... uses heeps of fuel and shitloads of black smoke when foot is down and mass build up of soot from exhaust. Ive read that there're ment to run rich from factory but not way too rich surely. the engine is stock as if this will help. Can someone help me out, cheers $35 of BP ultimate gets me 190km and thats little boosting like not reving past 3000rpm in gear changes

i take it from what you said that you are using stock ECU and knock control?

have you connected an A/F meter to check?

When did this start and what occured when it started?

    cheers

sorry mate, i didnt mean air flow meter but rather air/fuel meter.

in anycase, couple things to consider is that the car in stock form is not tuned for 98ron. some people dont have issues, but it is a consideration.

make sure the sensors are all working i believe they came with oxy sensor from factory which could be stuffed and therefore not sending the right reading back causing the computer to feed more fuel or even not cut it back as needed.

is there any backfire? stuttering when accel/decel or even take off

    cheers...

so the car isnt ment to run premium? (BP untimate) is there any harm in doing this? I was wondering why my uncle told me not to use premium. On idle, the car vibrates a fare bit like a pulse and temp gauge moves very little just passing the C and never goes up any further.

Do you currently have a thermostat installed. Sounds like the car is not warming up enogh and is running on choke all the time. I would check the thermostat to make sure there is one and its operating correctly, check your temp sensor while you're at it and if you have thermo fans, make sure there not comming on too early.

Either way once you find what the problem is and have rectified it you should change your spark plugs as they're probably all fouled up from running too rich.

    It doesnt work like that.
Using a higher RON fuel wont cause your car to use more of it.

el_corona, youve probably got a sensor problem.
AFM, air-temp, water-temp and EGO would be the sensors i would check first.

If you can (im not too familiar with 3T-GTEs) check ECU error codes.

Also, since your temp never goes above cold on the dash, replace your thermostat.

well this is what happened to me on one of my cars and is how the mechanic explained it to me. i changed back to nrmal fuel and didnt have issues anymore...

i am not making it up, but speaking from experience... my level wasnt as bad as being stated here, but i have had the same problem

    cheers...

i'm sorry mate, but it just doesn't work like that.. there would have been another underlying issue with your problem that i can't explain without fiddling with your car..

it's like saying my v6 verada.. being 9.1 CR, and designed to run on 91 RON +... means that is the minimum RON rating the fuel should have.. if you run it on 98 the car won't blow up or anything..

do some googling with fuel and RON & MON ratings.. or even talk to Trev aka The Last Street fighter.. he will be able to shed some more light on this..

i'll put it another way.. using a better, cleaner, higher octane fuel is always a better thing.. unless it's MS 109.. that burns the shit out of ceramic catalytic converters..

    +1 for water temp sensor

In layman's terms isn't higher ron just = higher burning point = less chance for pre-ignition = burn more smoothly = run better = power?
