engine came out of a TA63 celica
mate..... start at the basics, is it black or blue smoke? if black, check ur fuel pressure first. if u got 250kpa or 2.5 bar.... pressure is good and possible a/f meter, is the gt4 jap spec?
mine is and it is factory tuned to 101oc.
Aus is 95oc
If prob is still there poss ecu prob
i have just had that prob and changed my a/f and still tooo rich
i am now installing an emanage blue...
apparently gt4 ecu r common to break down over 10psi,
engine came out of a TA63 celica
oops i thought 3sgte. is it carb or inj?
fuel injected
does it run rich cold.... all the time?
has it got 1 wire switch or 2?
Does the gauge work?
i guess im asking do they run 2 switches? temp and sender or both together as 1?
if single wire it is sender to dash.
sorry i am unfamiliar with them what vehicle have u got and is the motor from?
can u extract codes from the ecu?
car was wired up at a workshop "fours n more" or something about 10years ago, temp gauge was working fine before. How do u get these codes?
i can find out tomoz if i know what car madel etc...
look at the thermostat housing for the switch and see how many wires.
does the gauge work now?
celica 1800gt-t 1884 (ta63) is what the engine came out from and has been in my rt132 corona for over ten years running fine till now
These ecu don't have codes, its basically a nipondenso ljet system. It could be because the engine is running very cold, check your thermostat. Also check your cold start injector is not running the whole time, discontect the wires to it for a start and see if things improve. You will need to check your fuel pressure and also check to see if the air flow meter has been buggered with.

checked my car today, pull of the hose on top of the FPR on the back of the fuel rail and there was strong smell of fuel, im gessing the FPR is split, where can i get a replacement?
shit... i think the old 3TGTE fpr is pretty unique to the old-style toyota EFI engines....
might be easier to put on an aftermarket FPR?
...... butt scratcher?!
try a sv11 camry, or any euro ljet car such as fiat, volvo, saab etc. Not sure how these go with positive pressure

Test it before you go replacing it.Originally Posted by el corona
I'd also try unplugging the cold-start injector and see if that fixes your problem.
Here are the main sensors which feed to your ECU that will affect your fuel economy
-Air Flow Meter
-Coolant temp sensor (gives the ECU it's temp signal so it knows when to turn the cold start injector on and off)
- 02 Sensor (tells the ECU how good the air/fuel ratio is, in a roundabout way)
The fuel pressure regulator could also be a cause of your troubles, but like i say, test it before replacing.
The 18R-G. The GOOD 2 Litre Tractor motor.
where is the "cold-start injector " located in the engine bay?
