    hey guys,

    i ran into an 18rg with solex's but it hasnt been started for 6 years. It did turn over however and sounds alright but could do with a freshen up. I don't know too much so any help would be appreciated. Where should i start if i wanted to freshen it up and slap it in my car. Cheers guys

    First of all see if you can get it to run. I like to initially start with 2 stroke as it gives a little bit of lube in the bores etc, but not critical. Dump the oil as it gets acidic with time. Change the filter. See if it starts, being a toyota it probably will lol. Your in a much better position to judge from there. You can even do a comp test once it gets warm to check condition of rings/valves etc. If it ain't broke don't fix it, but if it is it's a lot easier when it's out of the car.

    If it seems to run well just do the basics like rear crank seal and timing cover seals. If your game timing chains etc.

    Sorry wrote that in 2 minutes and need to go out but hope it helps

    before giving it fuel & spark, make sure you have oil pressure (remove plugs, crank until oil light goes out).

    If it's been years of nothing, then some oil down the bores, plus even removing the cam cover and pour some oil over the cams and cam chain.

    Check the casting number on the head if you're thinking about giving it a rings / bearings / gaskets rebuild.

    88210 -> 8825x will take 18R-C rings and bearings

    88270 rings are almost unobtainable.
