Hi all,

I'm currently getting myself organised to fit my 18rg to my ta22 celica. I plan on doing it properly by doing the pug/lux/corona brake upgrade, w57 gearbox, f series diff (mx23) and whatever else will be needed along the way and getting it all blue plated and legal!

My current issue is getting the x member/sump sorted. Even though it's a conversion that has been done occasionly no one ever seems to go into much detail for it and i'm currently running into some small issues. The engine bay doesn't leave much room for error with cutting and shutting as the 18r is a bit longer that then 2t. There is about 30mm variance in forward backward it can go.

Currently the sumps are basically going to interfere with the ta22 xmember (which will get cusom r series mounts once the sump is sorted) or the steering components. I cannot see any way i can get around this without hacking up a sump. This doesn't really bother me as i can sorta weld. My main issue is should i go for a front sump or the rear??

The rear sump won't interfere with the x member AND height looks good it's just the i have to cut out a section for the steering components that go near it.

The front sump i think is too deep and may have to cut more out of it to get the engine sitting low enough in the engine bay.

Cutting some of the sump out will obviously lower the volume of my sump. I don't think it'll be any more than about 400ml tops - should this be of concern???

Because both will need to be modified will i be better off going front or rear sump. Will i have oil surging issues under acceleration/deceleration? How much movement is there in the steering compenentry behind the xmember?? What limitations will this have for further stiffening work up front?

I'll shoot pics up soon once my battery is charged!
