vacuum line connected to fuel pressure regulator?
Just picked up a MS112 Crown Royal 1982.
Why,you ask?? Well, it was given to me by an old family member and having a problem with moving into the 21st century...I just couldn't resist it!![]()
Anyway to the problem. The trusty (??) old 5M is blowing heaps of black smoke, therefore I assume it is running rich.
It starts easy and idles OK, but when you drive or rev the engine it blows excessive smoke(yes,Black)
Before I got it, someone had the head off it. I am wondering if they have connected everything back up correctly?
I have checked the Cold Start Injector, and it is not the problem.
Anyone have any ideas? (No, i am not replacing the motor with something else just yet)
Suggestions in Plain English please as there is still a lot about EFI and ECU's that I don't know about![]()

Current: 94 jzs147 aristo, 92 ep82gt starlet
Prev: ma61, gz20, jza70, uzz31, ncp10r, 92 sw20r
And the winner of the big car race is......HOT ROD ZOIDBERG!
many of the ecus were retarded to 10 deg BTC to run shit 91 petrol
if you're running 98 you can bang it back up to the correct 98 BTC
might be 100% irrelevant here but ill bang it up anyway
its for a 5me by the way
Thanks, i'll check those tips out as soon as i get time. Also wondering if it could be injectors as it has been standing for a couple of years. And yes, it is a 5M-E.

Hi crownman here maybe check that the engine temp senser is working correctly ???
If it is not the ecu will think it is cold start mode and make sure the thermost is not stuck open or again the ecu will think the engine is cold regards Steve.
fuel pressure reg is at one end of the fuel rail - up towards #1 from memory. Is easy to spot as the flexible fuel line from it doesn't go to a filter. It should have a vacuum line from it to somewhere on the plenum
