Apparently it's an ST215 engine...
Looks like the caldina motor judging by the intake plenum.

It could be a Caldina engine, I don't know if the late MR2 motors had the end feed intake manifold.
Shifty, did you buy a halfcut, or just the motor?
No spare parts for you mate, haha.
I just bought the motor as I am running an Adaptronic ECU and had a Camry gearbox etc in mind, but the guy I was intending to buy the box & stuff from no longer seems keen to sell so now I'm regretting not buying an MR2 LSD half cut.
Unless I hear back from old mate soon, I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the direction of a cheap V6 Camry box/shafts/shifter setup here in Brisbane and/or a wrecker up here that has one. I considered using an ST162 setup but I've already got an MR2 version of the same box in my garage so that's sorta taking a sideways step and I'd rather use the biggest & best box I can right from the outset or I'll be annoyed when/if I break one.

More interested in the remains of a half cut. I'm still tossing up doing a V6 conversion, so having a half cut to dummy it all up into would shorten the length of time of the car off the road.
You may want to contact Terry from Road & Track, he's got a lot of bits around & is dismantling boxes. He just supplied me with a different final drive to install into mine.
mate there are heaps of wreckers here in brisbane.. what side of town are you?
Honestly I'd prefer not to deal with a shop except where specialist services are required... I've heard very good things about Terry but at the end of the day shops are there to make money so I prefer not to deal with them unless absolutely necessary.Originally Posted by wagonist
I'm on the southside. No luck at Salisbury or ABC the other day, I might duck out to Wacol for a look-see... either way though it's such a shame as the guy who was selling his had it for cheaps and a wrecker will want a fortune.mate there are heaps of wreckers here in brisbane.. what side of town are you?

same here..
also try GDM on beaudesert rd, and if your can drive out that far go see wayne at Park ridge wreckers.. there is also a few around the bogan.. i mean logan area..
is there anything wrong with running the EXXX what ever from a ST182/SXV10 camry with a 5S-FE.. they run an E series box..
as for driveshafts, give Darren from Driveline services ACACIA RIDGE a call.. he will be able to match somthing up for you
mat.
I've had a lot of difficulty dealing with GDM over the years, I've got no idea how they make any money as in my experience they've been unfriendly, unhelpful, and condescending. I can't speak for other people's experiences though and I suppose it only takes one good transaction to turn around a bad opinion so I might give them a try.Originally Posted by mattysshop

Be great if anyone can provide info on the boxes from the ST182 Celica / SXV10 Camry being E-series or not, and any differences between these (gearing, strength, fitment) and the MR2T/V6 ones that most mentioned.... these things would be a dime a dozen and far easier than finding a manual V6 one in a wrecker.a 5S-FE.. they run an E series box..
Sweet, I'll involve him once I get the right box and have it all mounted (anywhere between a week and a year, at this rate!)as for driveshafts, give Darren from Driveline services ACACIA RIDGE a call.. he will be able to match somthing up for you![]()

Ok well I just did some quick research and it seems that they're definitely an S series box (which is what I'd originally thought) and not an E series:I knew nothing about E-series boxes until a week ago... as far as I knew they were only available MR2T and V6 Camry variants. So it looks like it's definitely only the MR2 or V6 Camry options.
I wonder if ALL the V6 Camry boxes are the same bellhousing bolt pattern and will all fit to a 3SGTE, or if it's only some of them. I'd be well pissed to finally get one, go to the trouble of expense of removing & paying for it, then finding it doesn't fit!

All of the 3VZ ones will fit the 3S. Now from my dark memory of a thread by GT, the 1MZ ones are the same pattern. Infact check in the rides section on here, and someone is shoehorning one into an MA61, and using a 2S bellhousing to do so, which would imply that it would also fit the 3S.
There is a thread in the Conversions subforum of here which has a guy putting a 3VZ into his 5S powered camry, and using the original S gearbox rather than the 3VZ gearbox, which implies that the 3S/5S boltholes are the same as the 3VZ, and GTs thread implies that the 3VZ shares 1MZ holes.

I like your logic.
Seems there are a couple of options, anyway.

Logic was somewhat hampered by jackhammering on the floor below directly beneath me
Still works though.

i stand corrected, when i was scouring at the wreckers i saw a sxv10 (had a 5sfe) and the plate on the firewall had E153 or somthing like that on it.. and i swear i 'read' somewhere about the st182..
BUT.. there are usually E58's on twincam from 4AGZE halfcuts floating around..
if your not busy on the weekend maybe just have a walk around the wreckers.
