    Default DIY vinyl and embosing

Firstly we start out with basic vinyl covering

Parcel shelf is the easiest to start on...not much shape and dead flat.

    1. get yourself some good vinyl, not the cheap thick shizt from spotlight or clark rubber. get it from a proper auto upholstry supplier. probably looking at $24 per metre and up depending, i was lucky enough that someone stuffed up and i got trade at $14.50 per metre.
2.use existing parcel shelf as a template only! old p shelfs can be distorted and rough, which once vinyled will show up every little blemish. trace around old parcel shelf onto 3-6mm MDF. Please note, if you have big bad ass doof doof you may need to use 9-12mm, a/ so it doesn't rattle, b/ so you can actually fix off your 6x9's or what have you's to it.
    3. cut out the new p shelf and make sure you sand down the edges for the best effect.
Roll out your new vinyl on a flat surface - lay your new p shelf on it, leaving 20mm clearance from any edge, then trace around - remove p shelf then using good quality contact adhesive (no crazy clark crap) paint onto top face of MDF p shelf and then onto vinyl. now also paint adh 20mm past outline.
    4. Wait until both surfaces are tacky, any sooner and it wont work well! then lay both surfaces together, cut vinyl around so you can work with it, flip it so vinyl is up and remove any bubbles outwards using a soft rag, so as not to pull vinyl out of shape.
    5. Flip again. now paint adh 20mm around edge of back face of p shelf. and wait till tacky.
    6. Any round edges and corners now need to be cut in.

now fold over excess flaps on to rear of p shelf and hey presto....one vinyled p shelf.
NOTE: you can also tape around the flaps with decent cloth tape to have a better hold.

If real pictures are needed for this process let me know and i will post.

Next part will be embosing but i need to do up a dummy emboss with pictures so give me a couple of days.

    Cheers
