Timbo... regardless of what you're wearing, you'll be clipping in the 5th point of the harness yourself.
Go for it Joel. It would be great to have an interstate driver... and we need more Celicas.![]()

Beige.... The new Black!!!
Hey Ed,
.....yeah I am putting my hand up that I should be able to help in some way shape or form......help or just turn up for the weekend safe in the knowledge that I won't break my car if I don't run it........closer to the date I will be able to give more details.

i can get cheap bearings, ive got a MIG good for just about anything to do with cars, im alright at welding (nothing prettycan weld soundly though), ive got tools enough for most things car, crane, not too bad at the old metalworking, good at pullin shit apart and puttin it together again...
just your average backyard hack skills i guess! hehe

I can provide all required race stickers - Numbers, Batt location triangle, tow points, etc. Slim and I will be looking at some bigger sticker designs for all our cars to use too.
Alex - It'd be great to have you on board mate. Keep an eye on the thread.
Lambolica - There's enough time to get a celica sorted and ready to play by then.
Gary - We're always happy to have another backyard mechanic.![]()
It's early days, but we want to start thinking about all aspects of the event. I'd really love it if we finished in the top ten this year. There are some basic things that killed us last year that we can discuss and give a head start over the others.
Assumption is the mother of all f**kups...
How many laps per run do we expect to do?
Ideally you do an hour stint. Though that depends on fuel capacity - the mini was only able to do a half hour stint last time.
Your lap time target would be around 1.50 or a bit below, so based on that if it all went well you would be looking at 30ish laps. There is usually a safety car in there some where along the way.
The ideal situation would be to go out for an hour without stopping. You would probably do pretty quick times... Maybe 35 laps? But depending on our strategy and the reliabilty of the other cars you may be out for a couple of sessions. One driver cannot do more than 66 laps though for the event. This was one mistake we made last year and we were actually losing a lap from our tally every extra lap that was run.
Assumption is the mother of all f**kups...
All those laps came about because all the other cars in the team were out of action weren't they? Thats another thing that is really important. Car preparation.
I know its hard, but if you want to be serious about it and get a result, be serious about it!
Turn up with your car ready to run, ready to be scrutineered and ideally as reliable as you can make it. It's not really the event to turn up to with a whole raft of new things on the car (or a new car!) and if it can be avoided you shouldn't be prepping the car at the track. I know thats the club racing way, but it sure has the potential to spoil your weekend.
Engine failures and mechanical failures like that are a fact of life (and no doubt it will be me this year that has something blow up!!!) so they cant be avoided, but doing things like fitting extinguishers and all that stuff should be done well in advance.
Ideally, everyone should do a track day before hand as a shakedown. I know about a month before the event Tampered Motorsport ran a track day and there were lots of the guys entered in the 6 hour having a run on that day as a systems check. Its worth thinking about and planning for, though I know its another expense....
Anyways food for thought - I think if we can all turn up with cars ready to run, we will maximise the Saturday practice, which I don't think we did last year, be able to set more realistic target times thanks to that, and have a better result for it.
OK off my soap box now![]()
Anyone else coming to the Winton sprint on the long weekedn in June for some practice?
I'll be up for helping out. Can't afford to run and the celica isn't ready yet for trackwork anyway. Eddie have ya had a chance to check out a strut brace for me?

I hope I can do this,
But if you have an excess of volunteers, we are after a couple of people to help us with timing, it is a job that requires you to be on the wall most of the day. It is a job that requires the person to be ruthless (more info later to the applicant - LOL)
BUT, you do get to see how we do it (for future reference - LOL) We have been a top 10 finisher.
Looks like i might have found a good backup track car for winton if i dont get my 28 ready, its only front wheel drive celica ra ? i've only seen car once cant remember what model and owner hasn't clue either, think its around 89-90 every panel is damaged but running gear fine i think. Owner waiting for reg to run out and its mine
