    in between my legs?

i would move it further back and also use a deep dish steering wheel

only because where its comfortable to have my legs my arms feel too far from the shifter and steering wheel

its all personal preference tho, why move it based on other peoples opinions?

if it were up to me, i would move the shifter from 1st, quite quickly to 2nd, while bouncing off the limmer out the front of tom's house, then blame the whole thing on krafty kedderz. alas it has been too long since i have had the pleasure.

im 6 ft tall with longish arms and super long legs. the seat is as far back as it will go so for me id move the shifter back 20-30mm and shorten the stick probably 20mm

surely the answer is "within reach"
if you can make the cables to any length, then you can choose anywhere

but if you are making direct shifter on extension housing, it will always be a compromise depending on each person.

make a couple of different options. (small investment compared to the rest of the box...)

Depends what you are using the car for, a car for the race track i would have it as high and close to the steering wheel as I could feasibly get it, works for a lot of the V8 supercar drivers, checkout some in car footage from Winton, Lowndes/Whincups shifters are right next too the steering wheel.
