im just copying and pasting what the mechanic has emailed to ppl, so heres the problem!

ok the car is a MX83 with a 1UZFE fitted. i've been given your email addresses by the new owner who has just worn out his first transmission due to his assumption that the transmission didnt select 2nd gear properly.


he has supplied me with a second hand trans which doesnt select 2nd gear at all. i dont know what your histories are, or your level of knowledge of the car. i've been handed an ecu which i assume is the ecu for the trans which would explain why it requires "manual shifting" to operate. i'm completely in the dark here as to the conversion, was it completed? were there any previous problems etc.

the car is running a speedo cable, does it have the speed sensor at the trans or the instrument cluster? as there is a vacant plug at the speedo location. is it going to help foregoing the speedo and fitting a speed sensor to the trans? does unplugging the trans ecu trigger limp mode on the engine efi?

i dont know what was done, or what still needs to be done so with that i'm hoping you might be able to help me.

so the first thing you should do is answer his question, that will make the story a bit clear!
And yes the speed sensor is fitted in the transmission. On some ABS systems it is a bit more complicated. Knowing a bit about your car will definately help.

Denzel, is the trans ECU fitted at all into your car?. Also do you have your replacement tranny now in the car?.

I don't know much about these boxes, I know lots of people on hear do but I think I heard somewhere that without the auto ecu connected these boxes can be shifted manually but never go into 2nd gear.
You need to put power on the appropriate solenoid to get 2nd using the manual shift kit electronic box things or the original auto ecu needs to be hooked up

ecu isnt connected, replacement is fitted, thanks to peewee for the box
