    Another option to rethread the thread...

    Get another bolt that is the same size, and file 2/3 or 4 evenly spaced (i.e for 2-180deg appart, for 3-120deg apart), rather deep grooves into the thread. Use a rectangular section file so that you file a 'V' shape into the bolt.

    In effect you are making a cheap thread chasing tap. Better than just trying to jam any old bolt in there

    read your post but not the whole thread. i guess that someone has already said get a mobile thread repair guy to come and put a helicoil in the crossmember bolt hole.
