'Lock off controller' or 'safety switch' - very easy, cost $20something from an installer. You connect a wire to the - of any coil, or even just wrap it around one of the plug leads.
Positive terminal is 12v when ignition is on. Negative terminal is switched to ground by the points (in old systems) or by ignitor module/ dizzy module.

i think i have one of these. but not one going to the solenoid on the tank, think it goes to the purge solenoid :S
cheers for the info tho![]()
Everyones correct here. But, I wouldn't go using a fuel pump relay.
What you need is a Lock off Solenoid relay.
What it is triggered off is the ignition 12+ & the tacho signal. It's not just a simple relay, there's some smarts involved.
What it does is when it FIRST see's ignition 12v's it gets powered.. It then opens up the Lock off valves. THEN upon first seeing a signal from the tacho, it continues to keep the lock off valves powered.
BUT
When it sees the signal from the tacho die, IRREGARDLESS of Ig 12+, it will kill the power to the solenoids. It then starts a timer, and upon completion of the time, it can switch back on power to the solenoids and open them for starting again.
Atleast that's what mine does. THey can be more simplified. In so much as,
Upon Ig 12+, it'll power the lock off valves but NOT open them. THEN when it sees tacho, (IE first turning the motor over) it'll open the valves. THAT'S why LPG cars can be hard to start, because you've gotta wait for the gass to get down the lines after the motor has started spinning. THat's why they can take a while to start.
I got mine supplied and installed from Gas Research Performance Center (formerly Swift Automotive). If you want it'd be a reasonable idea to call and talk to them ,but they are in melbourne.
Seriously though mate, Call Gas Research (the manufacturer) in perth and ask them who their prefered supplier is in QLD. THEN call them and ask for one of said switches/relays. THey will come with instructions.
A point to Note: An LPG installation isn't legal unless an authorized installer has installed said relays AND/OR "OKed" the installation... It would be well worth you taking a car to one of these places mate.
NNB: LPG is not to be fucked with.. I've seen some very back backfires, (Yes, i caused them) and I've counted my lucky stars that my installation was done correctly. Had it not have been, I'd have had a $35,000 bunsen burner....
stradlater is the lpg god![]()
dude, your help is awesome!
ive got it running and what you have said confirms what i have done.
i found out that there was a piggy back on the lock off in the engine bay and connected the wire for the lockoff in the boot to that,
then supplies ign power to the other side of the relay with the - coil wire already connected and she goes
had a few issues with my timing to start with. read flames out of an intercooler piping weld..eek!
the car has an lpg plate in the bay from when the install was first done so i should be safe.
i almost had it running properly. then as oil pressure came up it pissed 3 ltrs of new oil on the floor
damn bastard to the OPS and never blocked off the hole.
will get myself a gauge tomorrow and see how i go
thank you all for your help![]()
Glad to be of assistance mate. :-)
So you forgot to block off the OPS? You should still have one of those sensors in there mate.. :-)
Let me know how you go, cos I'm having my own difficulties at the moment (ignition I think), and inspiration is what I need..
well, it was more didnt know it was missing than forgetting to close it off. but i picked up an el cheapo mechanical oil pressure gauge today to last until i do my custom interior. will block the whole and do something useful...bonus
i shall fit this either a bit later tonight or in the morning and hopefully ill get to hear that beautiful supra exhaust note one more time...who would think its in a corolla haha
