    Default -ve Camber RCA's

    Hi Guys,

I have ordered a set of -ve camber RCA's from T3 for my TA22 (They are listed as a AE86 part but according to T3 they suit the TA22 as well).
    T3 NCRCA

Just mulling over the pro's and cons of what this will do to the suspension geometry.

So far I have come up with the following pros

    1. (obvious) more -ve camber (the celica almost looks like it has +ve camber sitting in the drive) I've also heard early model Toyotas were engineered with some +ve camber

    2. (obvious) Raises the roll centre of the car

    3. Reduces bumpsteer?? not sure on this one, the celica doesn't seem to have much. I'm thinking this may be masked by less suspension travel over bumps due to stiffer springs?

    4. I'm led to believe the celica has +ve scrub radius (most RWD cars do), and the NCRCA's will increase the SAI and reduce the +ve scrub radius, which should improve straightline stability OR allow me to fit -ve offset rims without the adverse affects of changing wheel offset. Anyone clarify?

I've also ordered whiteline swaybars so these will be going in at the same time

My main concern is if this part will affect the safety of my car at all. Balljoints are subject to some intense shear stresses when corning on rough surfaces, so all of this force is going to be transferred through the NCRCA.

If anyone has used these NCRCA's before or has extra knowledge, any input would be great

    Cheers, JB

RCAs are predominantly used for when you lower your car. you lower the car 2", you get a 2" RCA. The RCAs are to put your car back to as close to factory steering geometry as possible after you have lowered it.

i may be wrong here, but i do not see how an RCA will camber the car in any way as it lowers the control arm and steering knuckle. It does not change the springs or shocks...

if you want canber then you will need to get the KMac kit

    cheers

These RCA's change camber by shifting the axle outwards, because they introduce an offset between the balljoint and the bottom of the strut. See the double set of holes in the blocks on the pic on the T3 site.

bumpsteer... since the relationship between the steering arm, the lower arm, and the drag links are unchanged, there should be no change in the cars bumpsteer, other than putting it in a different part of the standard bumpsteer curve

    Sup guys, got an update

Received my NCRCA's in the mail and put them in promptly (3 hr backyard job) and O M G what a difference!!! The car handles soooo much better, and looks mean with some camber and wheels filling the guards like they should.

The steering got heavier (side effect of more +ve scrub radius) but turn in, body roll and front end grip improved immensely.. I heard that +ve scrub radius will make the car unstable under braking and seem a bit "sketchy" on the road, but the sleeka tracks dead straight under heavy braking and seems as stable as before. Although toe-in may be masking this (I think there is excessive toe-in on my car due to the front tyre wear). T3 calls them "bumpsteer spacers" but I didn't really notice any change so I don't know what the deal is there.

The only bad thing I've noticed other than heavier steering is scrubbing on the inside of the guard due to the wider track and during full lock turning on the wheel tub because of the wheels moving in a wider radius while turning. Lower profile tires and a larger +ve wheel offset by a couple mm should fix this though

I would have put up some pics of the installation and overall result but I don't have a camera I hope someone finds this helpful in the future

I reckon one of those options would suit an RA40? Doesn't mention negative camber ones though.. but he gets things machined locally so he could probably get something done for you
