    Default Help with a Rare Corolla ae95 4wd SEDAN - wheel fitment and suspension help

    Hi guys,

    A little background info on me and a mates situation

    A good mate of mine has a black plate import ae95 4wd SEDAN.

    Member "sw20r" 's post shows one here http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...highlight=ae95

    He is about to buy some Sportmax 513s in +15 offset all around

    now he is on a budget of 1k and these rims are immaculate and have like brand new rubber, he needs 4x100 and these are multi pcd, Perfect.
    rims in question :

    He is currently rolling on 16" barina SRI rims, and the rear sits noticeably in towards the struts (RWD OFFSET)

    we trial fitted the rims, and this is what happened:

    With a bit of weight on the boot the rear is going to sit nice when it gets lowered...

    The front is the concern at the moment, with a +15 offset the front sticks out quite a bit, but we really want to make it work... No direct top down shot sorry but it sticks out say 1.5" from the gaurd

    NOW for the tough Questions

    He will be looking at lowering it when his SRI 16" wheels sell.

    1 ) What suspension (springs only not s/h coilovers) do we buy ? will it be ae92 front springs and rear ?? or some ae86 rear stuff ??

    2 ) When he lowers the front, he will lip the gaurds, but that wont be enough, we are assuming the front will give natural negative camber the lower we go.... Will this possibly tuck in the top of the wheel 1+ inch? We are also prepared to further help this with the use of camber pins.

    The rears he is happy with, he may even run a bolt on spacer to toughen the look of the rear even more after guard rolling, but thats all later...its all about that tough offset look.

    I know there are alot of different opinions on what else we COULD do but at the current point in time you must understand that this current setup is what we WANT to work...

    So please, let us know what we can do in this situation under these circumstances only, i dont want to be told, buy staggered fitment ,get more suited offset, dont run silly camber ETC

    the wheels are cheap, in IMMACULATE condition and we have put them on hold. Failing this my mate with ae86 is second inline buying them!

    So please toymods gurus, What suspension do we need to make this WORK!

    Thanks
    Dane

    1" = about 2.5-3 deg negative camber..
    that is a long way to tuck in.
    unless you run a better offset, you will HAVE to run flares, or get the guards flared out an inch.

    to work out what springs to buy, find an old TEIN catalogue.. the current one only goes to AE100. fronts are likely to be AE92 but rear is a bit different to 86.
    as you say, he is after the tough look, so dont worry about what makes the suspension work

    either get the front guards rolled out a long way, or flared in metal, or accept that the tyres won't be under the guards.

    with that much scrub radius, it will probably be a bit shit to drive

    here shows the different spring sets for older toyotas
    http://www.zoom-bane.jp/shop/h-toyota_ra.html
    AE95 = TO105006SDF
    AE92(SC) = TO105005SDF
    AE92 = TO105004SDF
    AE86 = TO105002SDF

    but no info on the actual springs..

    have you talked to ANY spring or suspension shops yet?

    AE10x have different TRD springs for both front and rear, even tho spring rate is same
    http://trdparts.jp/english/parts_spring.html

    not many places list AE95 as it is too old.

    yeah its going to have to get some serious camber on the front ,luckily its a cruisey car to and from his work, and 195 50 15 tyres are cheap...
    he wont touch his gaurds hes pretty fussy about his cars condition lol

    if only we could find out exactly what rears is in there....so we would know what to order

    even a stock set of springs to be re-set !

    also where would i find an old tein catologue and does anyone else have any input!

    much appreciated!

    what about some positive offset spacers?

    How much meat is on the mounting face of the wheel? Possible to get a bit shaved off?

    Sometimes wheels just wont fit.

    Im suggesting go a different wheel , at least go a different offset.

    you may be able to get away with a combination of them all.

    Roll the front lip and pull it a little - it shouldn't be noticable if done well.

    Machine a little off the wheel if suitable.

    Then run neg camber to get it to fit from there.

    Stuff the wheels, get some pics of the rear end setup and floorpan! No such photos of this exist on the internet yet, I'm dead keen on seeing how they solved it, hopefully a bit more elegant than the AE95R wagon did.

    T-series live axle. Its the same as the wagon from memory, not particularly rare.

    You will find that the AE95 is meant to run a FWD offset, being based on a FWD car.

    Rear suspension should be multi-link (similar to the Caldina) which also means that without some major metal work at the rear (and also possibly to the trans tunnel), that it won't bolt up (or come close) to a FWD.
    I know I went through all this when I was looking at converting my last FWD Caldina to AWD.
    Even though similar floorpan, I would've needed different engine cross members, steering rack, steering knuckles, fuel tank, and then I needed the rear floor pan.

    ok what exactly is a FWD offset supposed to be as i thought, that when 4 identical rims are bolted to this car and the rear wheels stick in heaps, that it needs a staggered fitment RWD offset set of rims...
