i played the o-ring game as well with my first block, i ended up ditching it, machining up a new block (without o-rings) and putting all my gear into it. use a cometic mls gasket and arp stud kit with no dramas as yet running it up to 20psi.

Well...... id prob remove the o-rings from the block and leave the grooves there. Get a decent MLS gasket and just fit that.

If the reciever grooves in the block from the o-rings line up with the bead/ raised groove of the gasket it could actually work in your favour......... kinda like having the o-ring part of the gasket now

If it doesnt line up all could go pear shaped ...... fingers crossed for you bro,

Cuzzo, Shaun's 4AGTE wagon has the reciever grooves in the block with no o-rings and has just run a MLS for near on the last 100,000km with no issues.

Initially it was going to be o-ringed with a copper gasket but things changed at the end of the build.

Check head and block surface with straight edge.

    Resurface if necessary.

Fit MLS or OEM gasket correctly.

    Enjoy.

what was that 7agte comment about?? you have a built 7agte already?

ignorining the tech details, options for you as i see them:

    1. fix 4a and keep using it.
    2. sell 4a as is and use 7a.
    3. fix 4a then sell it and use 7a.
    4. ---------
    5. skiddz
    5. profit

(is that accurate or is there more to the story)

i guess it's just down to 2. and 3. then.....and 7ag(t)e's never stay secrets for long. if you can get the 4a fixed up for a good price, i'd be inclined to do that, otherwise part it out or sell it off as a bhg.

do you have places the rolla needs to be before putting the 7a in (assuming you can't get it in before said date)

Why are you persisting with the small block motor then?
