Just an update on this.
The ecu with no codes is 89661-50102 - '90-'92 UCF10/11 with TRC
The ecu with code 56 is 89661-50092 - '90'92 UCF10 with no TRC
I still have no idea what code 56 is.
It doesn't appear to affect the engine in any way though.
Any else had code 56 come up?
Some quick research has suggested that it might be the hydro fan reservoir low fluid sensor, but thats only one reference (and I didn't even know it had a sensor).
I have 2 ECU's. One is a JDM UCF11, the other a JDM UCF10 (I think).
Plug in my UCF11 ecu, no codes, start car, no codes.
Plug in my UCF10 ecu, no codes, start car, instant code 56.
... ?

theres a code 56 there at the bottom of the page, trac motor pump locked...
Yeah, thats a TRAC ecu code, not an engine ecu code.
ie, the TRC light will flash 56, not the CEL when giving that code.
Each ecu has its own diagnostics (suspension, cruise, abs, trac, auto, engine) and they all flash different globes.

Just to follow this up if anyone is interested.
I had soldered STA and NSW together to try and fix an idle issue. This was causing code 56 on both ecu's in the end.
Reset ecu, bridge TE1 and E1, turn key on, everything was normal for about 3 seconds, then code 56 comes up. Not sure why it wasn't doing it before though.
But it sounds like a starting circuit fault.

NSW has an internall pull up to +12V, and a diode in series so that it can be pulled down by connecting to GND.
If you had NSW connected to STA you would of had +12V at STA all the time, which would throw a code I suspect...

That should have thrown code 43 though![]()

43 is no starter signal?

Not sure why no book covers code 56 then?
Could well be constant +12V to STA pin.
