Default Engine oil for BT 4AGE

    Hi all

oil change is coming up soon and was wondering what oils are the other BT 4AGEs running ?
currently i've got mobil super 2000 10w40, it seems to have degraded quite quickly in a space of 6 months with about 5000ks done

How many kms? 10w40 should be pretty close to what you should be running as I'm assuming the engine would have done >100k kms. Just get a decent full synthetic, I was previously using Royal Purple 10w40 in my car, expensive shit but I can definitely notice a HUGE difference after changing back to a Halvoline semi-synth.
The above opinion is just that - my opinion. It is not shared by any business that I am currently or have previously been involved with, nor any of their employee's.

If you work the engine pretty hard, than 5000kms sounds about right.
The harder you work the engine, the more stress the oil is put under, the quicker it breaks down.

As said above... use a good full synth.

and also striken2o you should be changing the oil on that engine every 5000km or 3 months..(whichever comes first...)

    with a good full synthetic!

A sensible recommendation would be to just change your Oil after every 3000K's and keep using the same Mobil 1 10w-40 ($35 right ?).

Seriously anyone who uses Royal Purple or Redline Oil ($120+) in anything but an almost new highly tuned Engine is wasting their money...... for no gain.

Motul 300V is about $80 for 4L and reasonable assuming you get a good 5000-6000K's out of it.

Rep points are for those who feel inadequate in other areas !

I have to agree when it comes to Synthetic oils - I don't feel their price warrants any greater value protection wise, especially with a long service life.

Personally, I wouldn't use a 10W40 in Australian conditions, especially Perth where I live, unless I was prepared to change the oil every 2000Kms. I used a mineral 20W50 in a silvertop 4AGE for general street duties and change every 5000kms without any issue whatsoever - the oil warning light goes out quickly on start up, and it comes out of the sump at changover time, still looking good. If I was to address oil type for an engine that I want to beat up on - it would still have that 50 grade oil in it's multiviscosity - it would just get changed more regularly. The higher viscosity oil will protect the motor when warm and being pushed hard, while the lighter vis oil would do the same job when cold. I'm not a fan of lower multivis oils in performance motors unless you're changing the oil every 1200metres (ie 3 passes) - I'd prefer to have the higher sheer qualities of the oil to protect the bearing surfaces, and put up with the .00000000002BHP loss (ok not a scientifically proven fact - but you get my drift).
