1G-GTE Engine Number

Hey,
I'm trying to get my GX81 re-registered atm, and I need to know the engine number.
I've lost most if not all of my paperwork, and the documentation sitting in the car from Japan is from an MR-2.
The mechanic doing the RWC is also a little bit 'special' and hasn't managed to find the engine number either, and VicRoads are not going to be of any help unless I tell them the correct engine number.
Can anyone tell me where to find the engine number?

its on the inlet side, closer to the back of the motor from memory

There are actually two locations:

Gen 1 & 2 are below the inlet manifold about Cyl 4
Gen 3 is at the rear of the block below the starter motor (the photo is a Gen 3)

I did a quick search, and it just popped up a whooole lot of threads, couldn't see anything pertinent from a scan of the titles, just decided to ask, hoping someone would know the answer just quickly off the top of their heads.
