P.S. Stop taking all the performance parts out of WA! We need all we can get

LC Engineering are the number one source of 3rz and 2rz stuff but their web site seems to be in disagreement with my pc at the moment.

You dont happen to be Supercrown from PForums do you? That car is half the reason I choose a truck motor to mod.

    Cheers for the help
    Yep-that's me.

You shouldn't have any worries stuffing boost into the 3RZ. I wouldn't be too concerned about restricting boost to 12-14psi, as I'm currently stuffing 23psi through mine, and the only whimper has come from the headgasket, which is now sorted. The rods, block and crank on these engines (3rz/1fz) are bombproof.

Head studs are sorted. LC engineering do them for there "pro-street" engines so they should be more than adequete for my needs. Ordered Exhaust flange today and a bunch of steam pipe bends. Time to re-aquaint myself with an indexing head on the old vertical mill to get the merge/collector for the flange looking and flowing good... should be good fun stuffing that a few times before getting it right.

Also decided to go with the bigger turbo. More than likely a 500hp gt30 job.

Also found out ARB do an air locker kit for the 2wd hilux diffs... so traction should be sorted with one of those.

In typically helpful Toymods style, I thought I should highlight the contradiction

Hi Sean, I have just picked up a hilux 3rz and am looking at turboing. Pls forgive me but I'm all new to this, I'm used to old V8's! I dont want to go over the top but if I want to run 7 to 10psi of boost do I hve to decompress the motor or will it handle it? Also would I hve to machine in bigger or more injectors as well??

    Cheers, Troy.

ill sell you a turbo kit at the right price , direct plug and play

    ecu and wiring, harness etc
fmic , stainless pipes, silicone joiners etc.
    exhaust 3 into 3.5inch
turbo t04 , manifold , braided lines , air intake
    malpassi rising rate fpr
    5 puck clutch kit
    etc

still deciding what to do but throw me a price and you might make a decision for me

it could be 2j time or n/a time or sell time

i think the major factor in these engines reliability is the previous owner... big thrashings with lots of weight on the arse for long periods of time is going to take its toll , after all there work utes and the tradey dont care

but talk about dragging up an old thread
Only the shittiest of wines come in 5 litres

boosted 3rz hilux *new project* mwahaha

Well I'm not really sure what it would be worth, I spoke to a guy up the coast and he quoted me 11k drive in drive out for a stage one. Bit much for me. I haven't got the chash at the moment as it is in peices and still needs a few dollars chucked at it. Motor has only done 59k and the ute was in good condition bar the accident damage. No marks in the tray etc. What would be a ball park figure on your set up that would make you sell?? I have to go back to work overseas for a month on sunday but once the ute is on the road and I have some $$ again I might consider your proposal.....
This is what the ute looks like now. (I have sold the tub and have a tray for it)
    Cheers, Troy.

If anyone wants a turbo 3rz, without all the expenses, should look at mine which is 99 model, completely turbo ed, Have a look at the for sale section for details.

don,t believe there bullet proof, i,ve got 2 on the floor of my shed that you can take home in a bucket & i,ve seen bits of brads. small turbo, bigger injectors, good tune, keep the revs & boost down will give you good reliable power, the next step is pistons, rods, bigger turbo , still a better option than a 2j, i,m gonna do a complete forged bottom end if anyone,s interested

HI do you actually know whats been done to you engine, here,s a few things that could help make it live. shot pien the rods, hone the bore 4 more clearance, lower compression, better fuel delivery, camshaft design & timing ( this can drastically alter your true comp ratio) rod bolts etc etc The fact is we don,t know whats been done to your motor unless you let us pull it apart and check. you can,t tell people they can push 22psi into a stock 3rz & make 400rw, they are trying but their being left with a bucket of broken bits.your motor was probably built before pistons & rods wre readily available, i,m trying to find a cheap way to make good hp reliably, ive got 2 motors broken in my shed & ive seen bits of brads, they seem to do exactly the same thing & theirs nothing usable left. It,s gotta be cheaper to fix it before this happens

After talking to Matt last week and having a really good look at this Torana he definitely does not seem like a fella who would leave things to chance. You could ask him I guess as that would clear it up I doubt the zoom article would have ALL the finer details.
