    Default Sandblasting carbies?

I have a pair of old sidedraft webers that i am putting on my 2tg. They are showing their age and are dirty/corroding as alot of alloy parts do. I am about to rebuild them with new gaskets etc so was wondering if i can just sandblast them to make them all pretty again.
I would block off all the fuel lines as well as ports so no sand can get inside, and leave all covers on and just blast the outer body. And then when replacing the gaskets blow all the internals out with compressed air and carby clean. Does anybody see anything wrong with doing this? or have any advice?
    Thanks, Josh

Dont sand blast. Get em soda blasted.
Completly strip the carby of all venturys and jets ect.
Try and may up top and bottom plates to seal it up.

To be honest. This is relay a pro job, Not somthing you should undertake with out all of the gear. Cos if yu fuck it up its your fault. if ya get a pro Its there fuck up so they must fix it.

    Sandblasting would be to aggressive.

If you want to DIY then you could try a degreaser with caustic. You can buy 20L from Repco quite cheap (Heavy Duty Degreaser) and it is impressive what it will do. Wear good rubber gloves because you will feel it burn otherwise.

I did this with some grotty ali manifold bits and tried soaking for different amounts of time to get the desired outcome. I started with 2 minutes and about 5 total gave a great result. Leave it there too long and you will have pitting etc

The thottle shaft has ball bearings.
KEEP THEM CLEAN, or be able to adequately clean them afterwards.

well, i know that roger on here sandblasts all the carbies that he rebuilds. I have pm'ed him for advice but recieved no answer. I didnt think about the throttle shaft bearings so will try to remove them as well.
I dont see why it would be too aggressive, i would obviously only make light passes over them with the sandblasting gun as that is all that they need. So i cant see them warping or cracking or anything like that. And it would be done in a professional sandblast cabinet as we have one at work.
