    Default Smoking problem valve seals

    Hi
My camry blows a white smoke during idle.
Might be the valve stem seals. I'd like to give it a try fixing it my self but i better not (incase somthing went wrong). Plus i dont have the tools and the knowledge.
any workshop specialised in these area? like in wa

    cheers

Valve stems usually only blow oil smoke on startup due to oil running down the valve into the cylinder. They don't usually blow smoke constantly at idle.

i thought if that was really bad you will get smoke at idle too.

i remember some phag in fastfours asking martin donnon a questions about buckets or shims or something and martin donnon said the easy way for him to do it was to leave out the stem seals and that means you will get white smoke at start and when idling.

and martin donnon said that so it must be true.

    Just drive it.
Is it using a lot of oil, km/mi per l? Overheating? Did it start smoking suddenly and also lose power?
    What's the compression?
If it isn't using more oil then it would cost to fix and if it is just gradual wear & not a broken ring/piston, then it might run 10,000+ without getting much worse.
