    Default No Turbo

After just installing a 2jzgte into my van, I was giving a bit of stick when it sounded like a intercooler pipe blew off and I lost power. After checking all the pipes and finding all OK, I am a bit puzzled why it seems like 1 turbo is not working. I took off the intercooler pipe feeding the throttle body and revved the engine, and felt quite a bit of air coming through.
The engine still drives fine but with now mid range turbo power.
Any ideas before I start ripping stuff apart?

Wastegate stuck open maybe? Got a boost gauge to help you troubleshoot?

Checked your bov hoses and lines? if you dont have the turbo/intercooler brackets put on they can go loose over time and eventually pop off. best to go over the whole system.

With justjap intercoolers or other yumcha brand if the silcon hoses are too short they can pop off every now and then

Hook up a pressure / boost gauge to the manifold & see what sort of boost its actually making ..And at what rpm ..

    Rob ..

PS how does it seem on fuel now, that was some crazy consumption that you got out of the old vvti motor ...

I have only done 300ks and I dodgyied up a 2'' exhaust just to get it on the road. Getting a new 2.5" system installed on monday, so I havn't had a chance to do economy check.

I have checked all hoses and manaully moved the wastgate and the intake air control valve and all seem good. I will have to get a boost gauge and check boost.

It depends on what power you are after ? But i would personally go a 3'' saves changing to a bigger pipe later on ..

That's what my son told me but I don't want to hear it. When I had a system made for my last engine, it started with one muffler - then went to 2 - then I took the system off and fitted the original so I couldn't hear it.

If you ran some good mufflers it should be pretty good ? As you probably know already turbo motor exhausts are usually quieter than NA motor exhausts, with the same amount of mufflers ..

I've checked all the hoses. The turbos seem to work when the engine is cold but not when it's hot. I am going to buy a boost gauge today.

It might be the line to the pressure canister under the intake manifold has come off?

/ one of the other lines as draven mentioned...

Installed a boost gauge and it makes 3psi till about 3500 - 4000rpm then falls back to zero.

There's your problem, don't rev it past 3500 rpm ... Put a 1 in front of the 3 and the problem will be all fixed ...

I had the new exhaust fitted today and early economy appears to be around 15-16lt/100 which I am pleased with. And I am happy with noise levels.

And thanks for your solution lexy, I'll send the boost gauge off to the printers tomorrow.
