voltage regulator rooted. if you can get a spare alternator easily toss one in and see if the problem goes away (assuming it runs an internal reg)
I took a video: https://youtu.be/Ye-r5GizfBM
Any idea what would cause this? Over about 2k RPM the voltmeter pushes 18V+ and my a bunch of lights on the dash come on.
Lights, stereo, sub, amp, everything else in the car works fine (as far as I can tell) when this happens.
To me it seems like an alternator issue? I haven't got another battery on me to try out.

Cheers. Is it bad for the car keeping it like this for a few weeks?
I remember my last Carina had a weird alternator that didn't come on any Aus delivered cars, I'll have to look around.
Yeah you'll likely blow half your electrical system.
Yes, stop driving it! This happened to my AW11 and it blew the head lights, ecu, wideband sensor and killed the battery.
Well I drove it two days more and then the whole alternator died on the way to work.. I drove for 20 mins without any electronics :')
Ever so slightly different, but I put in a second hand ST184 alternator just now and all seems good! Lucky I didn't fry anything lol
Gee thanks for that, I'll be dreading the day now!
