Probably totally unrealated but i thought i may add it as an idea, reading through some posts on this site i came across a post from Youngy about a home built car (its in the general section) Now reading through this website it states

"The notable event is at 5000rpm, something happens which (as of the day of the test) I don't understand. The engine acts like it hits a rev-limit. At the moment I suspect something related to the VTEC switch point which is around that rpm. (Update: Later investigation showed the problem was caused by excessive back pressure in the exhaust.)"

Now matt has told me a few time that when his last motor blew up it sent many a turbo blades into his cat. This would obviously prevent flow and thus i thought maybe this is also being seen here. The fuel is a nice thought/idea but looking at what was different to the old !J and the new 1J a blocked cat is definately on the list...

    Just a thought

very good point gavin! i have another cat kicking around here i may just shave the little bastard and get it thrown in! it is a larger cat so therefore i would be doing it anyways so may as well get it done before the dyno tune... i seriously doubt that the cat would be restricting the flow that much as i have found pieces of porcelainish things in my cannon muffler before as well! lol so i am guessing that they are making there way through somehow!
    cheers

That would be the catalyst from inside the cat.. that would indicate your cat has collapsed... and it would almost certainly be causing a restriction..

hey mate, changed the cat, made it sound different and there was parts of turbos in there for sure! ummm still wrong cable for powerFC tuning, hooked up the EBC tho and it still cut out at 11psi, was free revving it till about 6K and then i heard a pop followed by a knocking noise, the car has been shelved for about another 2 weeks then more money will be poured into it. must get EBC off before going back to the mechanics for a possible warranty claim!
    cheers

hey i had both problems you had with my 1jz cressida, idle problem was cause d buy a small leak near the o2 sensor in the exhaust. it also made the car run richer than Donald Trump.
it wouldn`t rev past 6k and struggled to get there too. ther cat was replaced, and hole welded up and she was fine.

So GZP51 have you sorted it out???

I'm still batteling with my 1jz, it appears to have simular problems, high idle sometimes. Seems to get to 5000-5500 rpm and run out of puff and stay there. (1st and 2nd gears don't seem to be effected by this rpm limit)

I have a new walbro 255 fuel pump and fuel filter installed. No error codes, good coils and spark plugs.

A real mystery to say the least.
