AFM traditionally (at least as far as older Toyotas are concerned) stands for Air Flow Meter, most often a flap-style sensor in the intake piping just after the airbox, it's about the size of your fist and hard to miss. No ADM 4AGE had air-flow meters, they all had MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensors instead (silvertop 20valves do though). The little sensor (looks like a little antenna/Christmas tree) that plugs into the airbox is the intake air temperature sensor, which (along with the AFM/MAP and TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)) determine exactly how much air is entering the engine, and then the ECU tells the injectors how much to inject.Originally Posted by ca5pa
So technically it has got something to do with air/fuel mixture (to be safe, call it AFR for air/fuel ratio), but it's not an AFM.
