You know that the AE851 springs bind at roughly the same point as the stock springs.... give or take 0.1mm.
lift over 8.1 you should also get springs... TRD... HKS... Toda... all are about $160 per setOriginally Posted by pen15
I KNOW my set of TRD springs are good to over 10mm of lift (I'm using 8.38) I don't know how much lift the HKS, or Toda springs tolerate
Here is the TRD spring... next to a stock spring
Oh... the US part number is the one you plainly see... the part number for everyone else is in the lower right

Just out of curiousity, what is the issue with the factory ECU when running upgraded camshafts ?
Is the AFM readings maxed out at say 110Kw ? Or does the ECU read such a reading as "errorness" and spits the dummy ?
Rep points are for those who feel inadequate in other areas !
From my experience, 264 is the limit for the standard ecu. I tried using a greddy emanage to run 272's and it couldn't be tuned because of the 'limitations' and didn't give the tuner enough control over the vacuum...could have also been the dumb arse workshopIf you're going to do cams, get a full standalone ecu...it will serve your future needs as well
abently - you need to play around with the air:fuel ratios...something that you can't do with large lift and duration cams
I have been pruned by old man river!!!!!
not a 4a but i ran my engine in on the stock ecu with hks 264 cams and adj cam gears, sure it wasnt factory smooth but who wants that anyway. Map to afm might make a diff though.
NOT..... wish you would have facts to check.... ALL these springs were checked and bind BEGINS at .425" lift (OVER 10 mm) Please... *IF* you are going to offer your opinion...KNOW what you are talking about firstOriginally Posted by takai

Blah blah blah, unless you have some "uber special" AE851 springs then they bind within 0.1mm of the stock ones.Originally Posted by oldeskewltoy

Please feel free to revise your information.

I have Wade 268/268 duration & 8mm lift with stock ECU and it runs fine. Wade suggested that tests they did with Toyota Australia in developing some MR2 cams showed that 270 was the maximum.
But having driven a mates 256/264's, I would recommend those for usable power band on the street. I think his were HKS.

in your motor running 268/268 with 8mm lift are you using stock valve springs?Originally Posted by parrot

Yes, running to standard rev limit, have never had any problems, and with these cams you hit the limit quickly!

so with lift there is no need to upgrade valve springs if your using the stock ecu/rev limiter because im looking at using some 265 at 8.1 and 8.35 lift but im gonna be using the stock limiter and ecu do i still have to upgrade valve springs?

Like Parrot, I ran a set of Wade 872a's for 2 years of sprint racing with the standard 100kw ECU, no problems. They are 268 degree duration with 8.1mm lift and alot more cost effective than the similar HKS grind. I did not install heavy duty springs and redlined at 7800rpm which is the standard ECU redline for a small port, in short other than get you springs checked don't waste your money. Wade link below.
The fun part will be reshimming, a good source of shims is a Melbourne company called "Precision Shims", considerably cheaper than Toyota, link below.
