Hi
On about every 10th start my ae82 starter motor continues turning even when I release the key and even when I turn the key entirely off. The only way I can stop it is to disconnect the battery.
I have replaced relay between ignition and starter motor but problem continues.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Could be two items
1) Solenoid issue. Sometimes the contacts can get so pitted they stick together. Also, could be poor return spring in solenoid or starter motor. On the cressida the contacts are replaceable. Bought mine from Mekong Spares (Sydney) for five or ten dollars.
2). Ignition switch stuffed. I've had this happen. Could be either the switch contacts or the spring inside the switch.
I would put my money on the starter motor Solonoid as peterg mentioned, but to isolate the ignition switch out of the equation next time it sticks actually pull the ignition switch plug apart from the loom ( obviously you will have to be prepared as in shroud covers off etc before hand ) & if it stills cranks its the Solonoid .. you could also just pull the trigger wire off the solonoid if you can get to it, will have the same result ... Or check for power at the trigger wire on the starter again only when it sticks & you have turned off the ignition switch ..
