Acetone will possibly melt your paint really fast. I know that it is really good for removing acrylic paint from (aluminium) spray guns. Works very fast.

M.E.K. melts and softens stuff yes, it also renders your causes damage to your internal manly bits too! It's probably a cheap version of a vasectomy!

Is the glue soft? I have the same, but the glue has hardened, no doubt from heat and I just blast it away with the wire brush on a 4 inch angle grinder. Naturally, if it's sticky this won't work.

Scrape as much of it off as possible, then prepsol.
The above opinion is just that - my opinion. It is not shared by any business that I am currently or have previously been involved with, nor any of their employee's.

Thanks all for the handy advice.

    Some things I found:

Old hard glue wouldn't budge with heat gun (just stank lots)

After tearing away the majority of the fluffy insulation, brushed on "glue rid" from Bunnings which worked well in about 10 minutes to soften the glue enough to scrape away with a plastic spatula (thanks for the tip & product name). As mentioned by one of you earlier in the thread, the sections that had insulation attached actually came away easiest, like the insulation acted to hold the glue rid while it activated.

Most of the remaining glue residue came away with a prepsol soaked rag.

Shithouse job to do though, on an upside-down horizontal surface, with full ineterior in the car (damn my impatience!)

    Cheers
