5mge into into a 5me cressida?

hey guys im in the process of putting a 5mge into my 5me cressida, just need a seccond oppinion,

do i need to swap the loom and computer with the motor or dose it work on the standard 5me loom and computer, or can you even just get away with using the 5me computer.

theres a conversion thread somewhere around here, try searching, i have seen it a few times, i would say, if possible go 7m-ge instead of 5m-ge!! if you do go 5m-ge i'd suggest late model 5m-ge, as in TCCS version (digital stuff, electronic advance, 0-5v afm, knock sensor, o2 sensor, etc.) as the early version where analogue!! and crappy, a full day would see the electronics done, and, another day or so for mechanicals!!, then one more day to fix stupid errors made by yourself, forgetting to plug things up, etc!!

even if you have an early generation 5mge - swap the loom and ecu over.

I have started pulling it appart and i have the loom with the motor and the ecu out and i noticed next to it there was a box that looked like a small ecu and it has a sticker on it saying 5mge on it, but the plug that goes into it stayed it the car its not part of the engine loom. Do i need this or is it just something that wont be needed. Thanks

totally easier to leave loom on engine anyway dude, just unplug from ecu, and pull through the firewall.. reverse with the 5mge, then u can fit the 5mge comp cos u'r messin with that anyway. right? i'm not sure about how the 5mge loom integrates into the body loom, anyone know? thinkin about this for my gf's ma61 too

i bought a MA61 a while ago that had a 5mge swapped into it (5me originally)

the previous owner just swapped all the 5me engine loom and dizzy onto the 5mge engine.

im pretty sure the dizzy slots straight in but you need to make a little clamping bracket to secure it.

they also used the 5me afm

If you have the early 5MGE it should be plug and play with whats there now (to be honest I'm not sure if that means you reuse the 5ME loom/ecu, or the 5MGE loom plugs into the car with no mods).
A friend converted his 5ME MA61 to early 5MGE and didn't need any wiring mods, but I never found out what he used (ie, which loom).

If its late model 5MGE (multi rib v-belt for alternator/waterpump, round TPS) then reuse the 5MGE loom/ecu/etc, and splice.

on i have the motor in and the ecu pluged in and there are 2 plugs that go to the dash, and there is only one plug under the dash,

under the dash of the car the 5mge came out of there is two and a box that says ect computer on it, the plug for that stayes under the dash.


so does this mean i have to take the loom from under the dash aswell.. if i do thats a mission.

You'll have to dismantle the loom to remove the ECT box (its the computer for the auto).
