the factory bolts should be fine some people replace them when they re do the HG as for the std headgasket it would be ok or u could use a trd one but they will change the comp ratio
Basically i have a 4agze bigport converted to turbo. I'm lookin to run 15-17psi Just in the process of replacing the head gasket and have gotten a little confused.
are the NA 4age factory gaskets the same as the 4agze factory gaskets? ie, can i buy through any dealer or do i need to go through someone like castle hill toyota or mr revhead?
i have head that the ae112 7afe gaskets are a metal item and fit the 4age 16v's, is this true? worth it over the standard gasket?
are factory head bolts good enough or should i really be going for the arp items.
Thanks in advance!!

FWIW...... I never had probs with my ARP stud kit fitting...... just went straight in no prob.
I agree with cuzzo a MLS gasket is a must. which one is down to budget mate. The cometic ones arent bad or the steel ACL ones.
HKS head gaskets are the best gaskets made for a 4age by far.

HKS ones reusable? (just checkin)

Well...... yes and no.
Would i reuse one = NO
Are they able to be reused = YES
I have enough trouble trying to get a new one to seal 30psi LOL

matter of opinion...
but the OEM gasket is the BEST gasket (for long term oil and coolant sealing ) bar NONE...including HKS... reason... the OEM gasket has gone through MANY updates and changes which the aftermarket gaskets HAVEN'T done. One particular area to be careful of.... the D/S rear bolt... it is where one of the oil drains is... the newest factory headgasket seals the drain from the rear bolt... allowing easier removal, and properly sealing the drain. Most, if not all the aftermarket gaskets do NOT seal this drain from the bolt! Other areas of importance that the other guys don't do... all the major passages from block to head have a compressable rubber inlay in the OEM gasket...
Note the orange seal around the entire oil feed.... this seal is NOT found in the aftermarket gaskets.... that orange seal is used at other curcial sealing areas in the headgasket....
MLS gaskets.... seal ok... but you can't beat solid copper (imho) No layers to blow through! Solid copper are used on 7000 hp Keith Black Top fuel and Funny car engines... I know no other engine that has quite as high a cylinder pressure as a Top Fuel/Funny Car hemi
SCE ( http://www.scegasketsonline.com/index.html ) makes solid copper gaskets from .5mm to 2.4mm (.021" to .093")
Information is POWER... learn the facts!!
I agree with what you are saying .......but the stock gaskets are pretty piss weak at sealing the combustion pressures of a boosted engine.
Anything over 15psi and a blowout is almost certain.
I havent yet seen a beaded copper gasket..... can you get them for a 4age?
Im only going from experience........ i used to run a copper gasket before switching the HKS item
FWIW: i think you will find that those big engines dont run beaded seals or o-rings around the combustion chamber anymore..... they will most likely have the bore protrude past the deck height and a reciever groove cut in the head to seal em

The problem with ARP studs is that they hit the distributor drive shaft. You run DLI or some other modified ignition system?Originally Posted by 30psi 4agte

As for the original question, you can still buy full 4AGZE gasket kits through Toyota parts Aus, my brother picked up a full kit about 2 months ago.

I have read that some people have had issues though.
YLD16L: thats not a bad life span at all!.......i went through 2 of em always between cyl 2 &3
there was prob a bit of detonation in there tooit was very early on in my turbo 4age days lol
LEGEND: I would have said yes change it but seeing yld16l has had his in for so long you may be ok.......then again???

I'm well impressed with how my engine has held up, I'm waiting for mine to let go but it's going strong as, the engine is just an unopened import with a minimum of 170,000km on itOriginally Posted by 30psi 4agte
it's probably more like in excess of 200,000km.
My mates one let go exactly as yours did, between cylinders 2 & 3.
I'd most likely just go for a cometic item when I do rebuild mine and be done with it.

Are the GZE gaskets the same as GE ones like inlet manifold, exhaust manifold?
I'm assuming they are.
