Sparco Seat Compliancy - Which ones are ADR Approved?

Looking at Sparco fixed backs and Rails for the MR in dec-jan.. Im just curious though as to which ones are ADR Approved? And arent going to cause me a hassle getting them added to my insurance policy?

I looked at the Evo 2 at Revo Racegear which seemed quite nice.. but its a Pro seat which means its side mount and there wont be any Sparco rails for a passenger roadcar..

Whos been down this path before and what legality issues did you have?

they usualy have tags/booklets or stickers attached saying if there adr approved etc the shop that sells them should be able to tell you if not i wouldnt buy them if you plan on going legit. just about every seat out of a imported car is fine, ive just put fto seats in my 162 there a nice comfy seat and cheap.

I actually had a pair of early model MR-2 seats welded into my old Scorpion... a bit dodgy but comfortable, and very low. The rail assembly actually welded onto the floorpan.

With my ride now, I managed to keep the stock rails and destroy the rest of the stock seats in order to do it. The Monza 633 seats I have mounted on these rails were easy enough to get engineered. While they're not Sparco's, they still had to be modified to fit right, then engineer-certified. I'd think that most seats (including Sparco's) are ADR complianced, but yes there will be tags stitched in the most annoying of places telling you the legalities and whatnot.

Any Revolution Racegear should be able to tell you, i believe it is in the Cattledog.
But for the price of a Sprint i think the Velo Milano is far more comfortable. See http://www.velo.com.au/ for more details. It is definately ADRed too.

its not gonna matter whether they are ADR approved or not....the problem is...it only takes the officer 'suspicion' to put you through to be inspected. even if the seats are ADR approved....they'll look at the rails and defect you for that. i currently have a Bride Brix, no, they are not ADR approved and I also have a Sparco steerer...NO, not adr approved either. but dont drive like a wanker and you wont get pulled over......and if you do...dont be a smartass

Mine passed engineering without incident, via two separate engineers, and later a number of Highway Patrol cops didn't fault them either... maybe because I didn't show them attitude when I was pulled over, and was friendly about showing them the engineer's report. They had a lot of questions about the car, the last of which was "why a RAV4??"... they couldn't believe it.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking.. but after they got past all the legality issues they were looking at and comparing it to the engineer's report, things were a bit more relaxed with them. I didn't mind spending 5 more minutes even if just to humour them.

Not all of them, i have a pair of ADR complianced Velo Milanos upstairs, and they dont have a sticker on them. Maybe they are old though.

Again, for a good ADRed seat, i would highly reccomend the Velos, topnotch stuff and at a better price than the equivalent Sparcos.

to be specific im not looking at welding anything.. or anything similarly dodgy. im looking at Sparco's because theyre reasonably comfortable.. and more specifically.. they have a number of Rail/mount kits for specified passenger vehicles that bolt straight into the floor/chassis of the vehicle. simple, easy, and much less mucking about. the competition seats from what ive seen are all side mounts which there aren't any vehicle specific rails for.. and the street seats are bottom mount which have the custom rail mount kits but i havent seen many of these around and arent sure if theyre ADR compliant.

essentially at the end of the day even with the sparcos + sparco rails im going to have it engineered. my insurance is one of my biggest concerns because as the vehicle is still incumbered, im not going to be silly and make illegal mods to it and give them a reason to deny me in the event of a claim.

when i asked revo racegear about the bottom rail mounts they seemed to know what i was talking about which was a good sign, thus i dont know if that means that theyve had them in road cars or not before, but it seems like it. ill go have a yarn with them about the legalities of the sparco brand rails + seats i think.. there is a vehicle specific seat + rail matchup PDF on sparco's site.. i just cant find it right now to link to it here

i highly doubt your seats are ADRed then, without this certification.

Many or all of brides seats are meant to be non-ADR approved.

And for the price it seriously craps all over the Sparco Sprints and Bride equivalents. The Sparcos are an open back design, which feels great when you are sitting in them at the shop, but try doing it for a 3hr trip. I had the wonderful "pleasure" of driving a car from Canberra > Sydney and then being a passenger back in some Sprints.. hated them, absolutely hated them.
On the other hand ive driven around in my old Cobra, and my new Cobra, which are of similar design (closed back fibreglass) to the Velos and it really is heaps more comfortable.
