ive seen that before and yes stick to the paper filter! Was it brand new when you put it in your car ? seems like it has oil stains on it which makes out like the foam cant handle certain chemicals
Was driving along, nailed it, then sudden loss of power and couldn't rev, couldn't idle.
Popped the bonnet, checked just about everything, eventually checked the air filter, and found this.
Is it normal?
Just another reason to stick with a proper paper panel filter I reckon
And what brand is it?
Hmmmmmmmmm

Nah, it wasn't new.
It came in a UZZ30 airbox I bought a couple of years ago.
I only used it because I had no other filter. I'd say I've done about 1000km's max on it in this car.

some foams are better than others, but paper is better than foam for sure..
if you want foam, get Unifilter to cut a piece?![]()

yeh my old room mate had a hks foam pod filter, the one with the stainless mesh over the foam
yeah the engine sucked it up, wasnt nice
What is it with HKS and their Poor quality filters?
^^
saw that on my turbo car as well... due to clearance issues i can't fit a K&N pod or anything other that the death-shroom.. it currently has a Cypher industries mushroom pod which i wash, dry and oil every service, and so far the material seems ok..
i know that HKS filter elements are thinner and disintegrate, but could it be a lack of filter oil or improper maintenance? knowing HKS isn't the best but yea just to give it a bit of credit..?
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
I've never seen it on a panel foam filter, but I've seen it on a few diferent types of foam pods, particularly the HKS shrooms.
I'll stick to paper forever.
I'd love to see a shot of your engine bay if you can't fit a k&n filter in there?
foam has gone brittle from UV exposure or a cleaning agent - has bleach been used on it?
it does look like the same foam that i used as a filter for me made-in-china pond/fountain pump ... good for catching goldfish shit and little else.
Although the filter has been in my possession for a few years, its only been in service with me for about 6 weeks. Prior to that it sat in the cupboard for those couple of years, and then with the previous owner. What he did to it I don't know.

Hi,
There are many different shapes of Paper pod filters, so instead of getting the HKS one, it's not that hard to find ones that are the same dimensions, K&N has many models.
did any of it end going through the motor, results could of been ugly, ill stick paper for the time being!!

I like the oiled cotton type... yeah I know if it isn't properly maintained you can get the oil on the inside of the EFI workings... but the key here is PROPER Maintanence....
Information is POWER... learn the facts!!
I personally wouldn't put ANY oiled filter on a car with an AFM/MAF.
The integrity of the sensor can easily be damaged by the oil, and give false readings.
