Hose between engine and exhaust manifold 3SGTE

G'day everyone,
I have a little or big situation depends on the help I get.... Please help me.
A hose that's located between the engine and exhaust manifold on my ST185 has carked it so I need to replace this. Could someone please advice me on what I need to remove (if nay) in order to get to this little shit of a hose? Why couldn't they have made it into one solid metal pipe instead of inserting a rubber hose is beyond my comprehension. Not long ago I have replaced a hose that's way underneath and in between the engine and firewall.
Any help in very much appreciated.

its for the cooling system, Its a shit of a job and there is no real easy way. Get the proper toyota part as it should have some heat shielding shit around it, as opposed to just using a peice of rubber hose.

intercooler, turbo heatshield, dump pipe, oil filter (minimum). then you have to work around the back of the turbo and under the manifold.

Better way however is to take off the turbo and manifold in one piece, that gives you the most ammount of room to do it.

what hose are you specifically talking about.. a rubber hose connected to the zorst? I don't think so!

are you talking about the hose from hell? between the bypass and the oil filter cooler?

yes that sucks the big one to get that one off/replaced.

Thanks Cuts and yeah that's the one I'm after the little shit!!!! I did get the proper part from toyota and it cost $35 that's including the heat shield (thanks for your advice). What else that needs to come off apart from the manifold and turbo? Having a quick look at it, the turbo can't be removed without removing the whole exhausts system (well from turbo to the flexi anyway) would I be right? Or it is possible just to remove the turbo from where it's sitting? I really appreciate your assistance Cuts. Thanks and have a great day.

hmmm dude I think it can be done with the turbo on..

you just have to remove the oil cooler assembly (and that hose on the other size sucks too) and then go funky with long pliers, make sure you have some of those really long ones with the slightly bent ends

I haven't removed an oil cooler assembly before, is there anything I should know about before removing the assembly? I was just going to try removing it with a bent long nose like you suggested (just bought one this morning). And go funky!!! LOL. Thanks for the advice.

yeah man those pliers are one of my absolutely favourite tools.. I might go buy some more varieties as soon as I can

the cooler assembly isn't that hard (20 mins off and on again before a rally in the rain with bad tools lol)

oil cooler assembly..

1. Remove Alternator Cover/Cooling Shield
2. Remove Oil filter
3. Remove filter thread socket (holds the cooler ring on) with a big socket and nice long extension.. it's not deep so careful not to damage it
4. Remove two little 10mm nuts on bottom edge connecting it to the water pipe
5. Remove hose on driver's side of cooler ring with pointy pliers

THEN, you can get to the nuts that hold the "u" shape pipe that holds the bottom of the hose from hell on.. .if I recall correct.. been a while since I did the hose from hell.. (HFH) but we did do it all with the turbo and bypass pipes in place

Once that's loose you should have enough room to manipulate the hose the heck out of there

It was a piece of cake on my car, 30mins job done.

Removed oil filter, dip stick, alternator duct, and turbo heat shield (not stock mind you)

remove 2 stupid spring clamps

cut hose off

Put new hose on with a bit of lube and screw type hose clamps

profit.

i remember doing it once with a lot of things still in place, such as oil cooler assembly, it was a cock of a job....this was however many many moons ago when i was young and noobish with gtfours. I remember getting it on cleanly was half the trouble.

Hey fellas,
I finally replaced the HFH!!!! I took encouragement from Roundy " BUNCH OF PANSIES" (lol). and it took awhile 2.5 hours just to take the hose and put it back on was the longest time and the only thing I took off was the alternator,oxygen sensor and the two heat shield that surrounding the exhausts manifold. And the one tool that's been invaluable was the bent long nose pliers (RobST162 for the advice). The heat shield on the hose was a bit mangled up but I figured if the last hose lasted 19 years this one I replaced should be good for another 9 years, by then I would've traded in it for a Lamborghini Reventon ( lol).
Now I'm just going to put everything back and that can wait 'til tomorrow.
