I don't know if the interchangeability of the ca20 gearbox goes as far as having the exact same crossmember setup though - it may pay to check this so that you know a ca18det unit will be easy later if you want to swap.
Mate of mine is using one behind a ca18det.. i'll have to ask

I imagine they would be, CA18DET into bluebird is a common conversion. That said, they might not use the DET gearbox.

CA18DET gearbox uses the same mounts as a CA20E pintara box and is a drop in swap, the CA20 from a bluebird is a shorter gearbox. The CA20 box is weaker than a CA18DET box and will break >240ish rwhp from what I've heard. I know nothing about the CA18DE gearboxes though.
ok thanks heeps = )
dont think my ca18de will get up to 240rwhp lol
its might have around that with the ca18det engine i hope.
240rwhp is certainly doable target with a CA18DET. But yeah, if your staying with the CA18DE for a while and want a cheap manual conversion find a rusted out R31 Pintara (can be had for a carton, sometimes free depending on who you know) and get all your manual parts from that. Atleast then you'll be able to fairly easily swap over to a CA18DET gearbox later on.
Both gearboxes are hydraulic though, so if your doing a manual conversion you will need to convert the KE55 from cable to hydraulic.
seems like for a n/a motor you'd be better off looking in the toyota stable and getting a
3tgeu or 2tgeu.
similiar power, but a lot less fuckin around.
well i have just run into a mate of mine that has a datto 1200 wagon with a fj20det in it (his dad built it).
and his dad owns a custom car shop. so i went over and spoke to his dad and if i go help im on weekends and after school he will do the whole conversion for not very much = )
so im very pleased.
i will be using this thread to up date everyone on what going on and posting pic etc...
but i would just like to say a huge!!!! thanks to everyone that helped out.
special thanks to bananaman, mullet and XR pilot
the man thats going to do my car said that turboing the ca18de isnt a problem if i run about 10 pound of boost.
what do yous think?
With an aftermarket computer and good tune maybe, there are plenty of people that have done it, 10psi might be a bit keen though. I was going to get an s13 foor a daily and use all my handmedown stock turbo bits on it, probably a good thing i didn't

do you think running 6 pound low boost and having high boost at 10 pound would be a saver choice?
random question, i talking to this 17 yr old kid that say this mate 200sx (daily driver) is running 35 pound of boost is he just talking hot air?
how much work would it take to get a car running such high boost?
Its a safe bet to say that he is full of 35 pounds of shit, yesOriginally Posted by xjaxsonx
Have a look on nissansilvia.com for people that have done ca18de+t setups. There is alot of crap on there, but in amongst it all there is occasionally some useful information.

thanks heeeeeeeeeps!!!!
yeah thought 35pounds was abit optermistic
if he said like 20 pound i would have probly believed him and just put it down that his mate has a worked sr20
thanks lots = ) Dylan
