Sorry I wasn't clear on that. I meant the hilux 'front' diff which is a an IFS 7.5" f-series, into an f-series rear 3rd liveaxle.

I understand what your trying to say. Your saying the IFS axles are machined for a tighter fit so that when inserted it prevent's the spider gear of the torsen from moving in the case. And serves to help keep it center. Yes, that's important for an IFS/IRS diff because it's running a CV and could have massive vibration if the cv joint/axle end had movement.

In the case of a solid/live axle it's not a big deal (i think) as once power is applied/axle is rotating they locate themselves since the axle is stationary on the outside. Shouldn't be an issue. Open 2/4 pinions have play, LSD's have play but you would have to have a completly blown one to tell, no reason that a Torsen should'nt either. The fit isn't aerospace tight, nor would that work due to mfg tolerances on all the other parts... Or atleast so I think at this time.

I mean, they are sucessfully used in this manner...

The description of 'how' the true trac works here leads me to believe that the play your talking about is necessary for the design to work. Direct from the mfg owners manual.

But 3 or 4 mm of play , thats not right as when used in there factory IRS housing there is 1mm max. Of course when used in a live axel it will still work but for how long?
I pulled a working IRS Toyota torsen from a live axel hilux that had been fitted about 2000klm and the wear on the internal torsen gears was not good.

Ahh, I see. The true trac design may differ from the Toyota. I was talking about using the true trac, which shouldn't have any problems in a live axle (they have designs for fwd/rwd which would mean irs/ifs & live axle). I don't know enough about the Toyota Torsens to say whether or not it's an issue. So I'll have to bow out on whether or not a Toyota Torsen would have an issue.

But, if he want's to run a true trac, it shouldn't be a problem (which I believe was the point of this thread...) And he can always email eaton to confirm everything.

Yes you must specify what axel type you want assuming both detroit types are available for the G series. 8 in

mine will be in a live centre,

but I've got a F series true track in a Live axle and that is working fine from memory I just needed new larger bearings

live front, IFS, IRS or live rear all F series 7.5 Toyota's are 27mm 27 spline
