    Default 7MGE running temp

ive just got the 7mge running in my crown, and with the rep of these engines blowing headgaskets im keeping a really close eye on the temp.
im also running the crown radiator with a 12" thermo so not sure if this is enough for the engine.
cruising around it sits on 90 degrees, after revving it up sometimes getting to 100 up to 105 and ive seen 110 a couple of times, ive been told they are pretty normal temps but wanna get some further opinions before getting too used to it.
what temp is considered too hot?

    thanks, jesse

Whats your temp going up a long hill? If it constanly climbs I would be looking into it a bit more further! What thermostate a you using? I had a 7MGTE and I was using a 86deg thermostate. Also does the computer control the fan or do you have a thermo control to operate it? If your using a thermo control to switch the fan on/off set it so it comes on a couple of degree's above your cruising temp. Also I originally had 2 10" Davies Craig thermo fans with my 7MGTE and had problems controlling heat so I got myself the twin thermo setup from a Ford Falcon, worked miracle's.

PS Before you dive in to deep make sure your water system is ok (No clogs in water pipes etc, water pump ok, thermostate ok, radiator not gunked up with leave's etc) Goodluck!

brand new 82 degree 7mge thermostat
radiator and water system had cleaner through it and flushed three times, now using coolant.
fan is a 12 inch setup to push, not pull becuase it wont fit behind the radiator, its controlled by repco thermo fan switch. this is set to come on at 90 at the moment.
havent had it on a long drive yet, still sorting out little things and not sure about temperatures.

so is 110 safe or does that sound too hot?

110 seems a little toasty to be honest.. i used to average about 95 degrees when driving normally on the GTE, 100 if i was thrashing it. and thats a hotter engine too i would imagine from the turbo kicking out heat as well..

If you have an 82 deg thermostat, the motor should sit on 85 while cruising, and up to 90 while under load.
I have my thermo set to come on at 95, off at 90.

I'd suggest your radiator is too small, or blocked.

7M's are one of toyotas hotter running engines, mix this with the factory balls-up of the HG's and its not really a very good combination.

My advice, having just been through all this, clean everything, replace every single water hose, cheap to do now, but will save you quite a headache.

as cruzida said, your radiator isnt cooling fast enough for the engine, so get it checked to see what condition it is in, to see whether its not working properly, or whether its just not big enough.

My 7MGTE runs quite hot, that said though, its how its been setup, and it works fine for now, keep in mind, ive just had a full head reco, new headgasket, all new pipes, radiator cleaned, new top tank, block and head flushed etc. etc.

the stock digital temp guage never moves from half, once its warmed up, even if i hammer it, thrash it, hang the arse end out, nothing, never rises above half, although i did have an aftermarket guage in there, and it was more sensitive than the stocker, and it fluctuated quite a bit.

thats why a warranty is good

If your concerned, which you should be, get the cooling system checked, some places even do it for free now!

    Best of luck.

Stock temperature guage system in atleast cressida is not too accurate and should not be trusted after 15 years in service...
