I dont think the RTA cares about (or more importantly has laws concerning) spare tyres, IE I dont think there is a law to say your Must have one, or any form of puncture repair in your car.

But if you do have one, it must be roadworthy

spare only has to be roadworthy if its on the car

    in vic anyway.

and no u dont need one to be legal

realistically... I find it is a waste of time and spare, carrying the spare tyre around. The last time I had to use a spare tyre, was about 15 years ago, and that is because some dum nitwitt dropped a Haystack carying hook on the road... punctured the tyre, and made some serious damage to the guard...

If I get a puncture... I just call my wife, and ask her to drop the spare tyre around ... "Hello Deeeeer!!!! can you please....."

With those cans... I probably wouldn't suggest having one of these, as they really put your tyres out of balance, and is a mess to clean up after...

Hhhmmm well as is usually the case in this land it varies from state to state, I was sitting in a car that got the once over from the RTA and the lack of any form of spare tyre or means to repair one earnt a defect.....so I'm only speaking on behalf of the ACT Going over the pits in a previous car I had with no spare they said it had to be there on the re-inspection too. So to avoid an anal or ill-informed RTA/copper defect the can I carry now will keep me out of trouble

Don't get a real cheapy foot pump either, one compression that's not directed exactly 100% perpendicular to its scissor action and the fkn things bend and buckle sideways - good bye Mr foot pump!

Saw a foot pump today at Repco for $55, looked strong and sturdy. Tossing up between that or the 12v 'pressor, but if i get the electric option i want something good. They have them at Repco for $9.99 (mini 12 250psi) yeah right!
    Kind Regards,

Get the $55 foot pump, you WILL regret the cheapo 12V compressor. Mine seriously fucked out after probably 2 pressure top ups and one half inflation.
