    Default ma61 rims & rubber on RA40 - do-able?

Sorry to be asking a stupid question but i'm at work and my cars aren't

has anyone tried this? stock MA61 rims will obviously bolt up, but with 225 rubber attached will they fit onto stock RA40 suspension? (e.g. not hit the front struts, hit the inner-rear guards, etc).

I only ask as rego is due (expires 16 april - how's that for bad timing) and my existing tyres are pretty suckful and i really can't afford a set of tyres before heading down to Dubbo.

The ma61 rims are shod with Yokohama A509s (225s) and have plenty of grip/tread left hence my enthusiasm for wearing them out.

    tia,
    charles.

If it's anything like a 23, I reckon they'll fit but you'll have to put up with a bit of scrubbing. I put MA61 rims and rubber on my 23 a while ago, there was no problem with strut clearance etc but I never tried actually driving it like that.

I currently have a spare set of MA61 rims with 215 tyres, so if you're looking for something to get you to Dubbo and back you're welcome to borrow them if the 225's are a bit big.

RA40 front hubs have the hubface ~8mm closer to the strut compared to an MA61 hub.
So if your tyres hit the strut, swap to an MA61 hub and space your calipers temporarily.

On my RA23 before the big brake upgrade I tried MA61 rims and 215 rubber and they were perfect in the rear, no scrub and inside the guards, but on the front, while they did not scrub, the sidewall of the tyres bulged 10mm outside the top lip of the fender/front guard.

ive noticed that XT130 struts/hubs can handle a greater offset rim compared to the stock RA40 item.

i could put a 7" x 15" silvia rim on the GA40 (with XT130 hubs) and they would just clear the strut by a bee's dick

i then tried to fit the same tyre to the front of the whiteRA40 (all stock) with no luck. id say the difference is at leat 5mm

My RA40 has stock struts/hubs with MA61 rims on it (14x7+8), with that setup the widest
you can go with tyres without scrubbing is 215.

same as mike, but when u reverse down a slanted drive way, and full lock, some rubber *jsut* touches some part of the guard. -its with old stock springs, lowerd springs will be find as long as they are harder.

damn - looks like the Yokohama A509s will have to wait until i get the XT130 strut thing happening.

    thanks all for the input.
