How fast do you intend on driving it?
If its never going to get about 60kph the intercooler wouldn't do much anyway.
am playing around with an old padock basher, more of a learning experience than anything else, basically an old 4age have made my own turbo manifold and was going to hook up the t28 i have in the shed to it, i know all the business with 4ages what block has what etc, dont wanna spend money just want to tinker more than anything, its an old ae80 with my worn 20v in it, so room is abit of a problem, would it hurt it to run 5psi uncooled?
plan was
to just retard the ignition, so hopefully it didnt ping its head off
to weld up the standard intake manifold
after i have assembled the megasquirt just have a play around with it
any tips would be great
so bottom line is would 5psi (standard actuator) produce enough heat to worry about?
like i said not here to make millions of killerwatz
cheers in advance guys

easier to run it a little bit richer than to add IC
should be relatively safe, unless you are going to hold it on limiter doing doughies...

yes true that is, but i had an old rs liberty item i was going to use, but it would be a tight squeeze and a hassle i didnt realy want to have to worry about if i didnt need to
old rola nar i dont live a sheep station with an XF so wont be no donuts
lol thanks for the mental picture
your welcome
which MS? V3 and MS2? which code?
it should be pretty easy to tune conservatively, ie keep it a bti rich, pull out a couple mroe degrees of timing, then as you get more familiar with it, you can tune more aggressively.
is there a function to map timing vs air temp? i vaguely remeber there being something like that..

megasquirt 2 with pcb 3 if i can remember rightly
I ran a 2JZ with no cooler for about 2.5 years. It was "fine".
After fitting a cooler, apart from the obvious power difference, there was a massive fuel economy improvement.
If you have a factory AFM ecu you can sometimes get away with low boost, without doing anything to the fuel system.

if its a Megasquirt ECU, give it a couple of runs and datalog them. observe the intake air temp, if its get over 45Degree C, you need an intercooler
This is a simplification but since PV=nRT
At 5PSI boost your temps can rise up approx 100 degrees from 25 deg C before you have less air.
I used a 4AGZE intercooler side mounted with no scoop, just the normal engine ventillation on 8psi for almost a year, got warm on the really hot days but so does a GTiR Pulsar top mount. Did fine in other weather. In your case you'd want cooler intake charge because your high compression won't be doing it any favours.

75 degrees from 5psi boost? I think you miscalculated somewhere.Originally Posted by amichie
