the T series diff out of the JDM AE86 will be longer than the TA22 by about 30mm I think, this could cause some problems.
with the front end gear, I would say it would fit but the alignment might not work out
Hello. I have been offered a rear axle from an AE86 GT with discs brakes and also the front strut/hub/disc from the same car. Do any of you guys know if these will fit my TA22, without too much hassle?

Thanks Dodgy one.I might try it anyway.
You will need to change the mounts on the diff to fit the TA22. The stock AE86 diff if 1410mm from memory and the TA22 one is 1365mm. Widthwise it will be fine and you can fit 7" rims with 0 offset under the guards just if you roll the lips.
To fit the struts you need to change the strut tops and use the TA22 strut tops on the AE86 struts. Also need to use the AE86 steering knuckles as it wont bolt onto the TA22 ones. The ball joint is the same so it will fit.
Discs and centre should slot into/onto the 22 housing(if it was the earlier 86)as they are both T diffs and your housing is right for your car.Makes the job a lot easier and the 86 housing and axles will be a peice of piss to sell.
cheers joe
Thanks guys for the info. Appreciate it. Good to have people who know their stuff.
a lot of experimentation has been tried on the ta22 in this area, but the ta22 is different to any other model toyota engineers designed any mods may upset KPI (king pin inclination)
this is the geometrical angles that hold the car on the road. change this and youll end up in the ditch ( i rembember spending many hours at the wreckers with andrew and eddie on experimantal expeditions only to come up with mud and grease upto our armpits.
suxcess comes at a price.
lesson #2906- hold on to the origonal parts until your 110% satisfied the mods are an improvment
I'm running AE86 struts in my TA22 atm and they feel fine but then again I've converted them to coilovers and am running 1 degree negative camber so they are not exactly factory.
Do you think that the corona parts would be better for the front? Living in the UK means importing everything from Aus.
Changing the strut won't change the KPI (if the height remains the same). This is because the position of the lower ball joint and strut top centre (2 defining points of KPI) do not change.a lot of experimentation has been tried on the ta22 in this area, but the ta22 is different to any other model toyota engineers designed any mods may upset KPI (king pin inclination)

I think nyce22 is meaning that the axle stub angle may be different to the stock TA22 struts which will affect camber settings.
Look in the below pic on the right for a macpherson strut. The two coloured circles is the tyre so imagine that you are looking at a wheel that is chopped down the middle.
KPI is measured 'in degrees from the center line of the ball joint or kingpin to true vertical (0). It is a directional control angle with fixed relationship to camber settings.' (source).
RobertoX is right changing the struts will not have an effect on the KPI as the lower ball joint and the strut top centre don't change.

Yup, this is right. The camber may be affected. This is referred to as "included angle", the difference between the KPI and the camber angle.
If you use a strut with large included angle on a car that orininally had a lower included angle then the camber will be more positive.
Camber angle can be corrected but KPI has a lot to to with the steering geometry and increasing it is often not so good. Changing struts to have a different stub axle angle doesn't affect this though.
Anyway, back OT. Will the ae86 stub axle fit the ta22 steering arm bolt pattern? There are a few different bolt spacings commonly used on 80's toyotas right?
So are you saying that there will not be a problem changing the whole unit over?
regarding the diff, it should mount into your TA22 no worries... only issue might be the tailshaft.
Johnny Cash is my Navigator.
No it wont which is why you need the ae86 steering arms. Its very close but different.Originally Posted by RobertoX
