Question Toyota 3sge/3sgte Head Gasket thicknesses

    Hi guys,

I'm trying to track down the various thicknesses of Toyota head gaskets for 3sge Beams motors. So far I have found a number of different part numbers for various models (listed below with their respective model cars) and I'm trying to figure out the various thicknesses. Previously I've used one from an ST215 Caldina that was 0.8mm thick but I can't find the Toyota part number to 100% verify - I should have a better filing system

I realise that there are aftermarket gaskets around that publish these specs, but they are the same construction style (MLS) and anything up to double or triple the price, so why pay more when you can get good toyota parts for cheaper money?

Here is what I have found so far (thanks to www.toyodiy.com) and I just need to find out the thickness of each of these part numbers. Any ideas where I can get this info from?

    11115-88460 3sge ST195 (up to 97) Caldina N/A - Gen 3 motor, not a Beams motor
    11115-88560 3sge Beams ST210/ST215 Caldina N/A - 0.8mm thick
    11115-88570 3sge Beams SXE10 Altezza Black Top N/A - 0.8mm thick
    11115-88580 3sgte Beams ST215 Caldina Turbo

Any help would be appreciated in tracking down the specs of these gaskets.

    Thanks in advance
    Dave

dave the 560 and 570 are .8 of a mm and there are 2 others that are dearer that are .5 and .3 of a mm for sprint races if you wont to go this way
i still use a std head gasket even with 13.5 to 1 comp in NA form so for turbo the std 1 should be ok

Thanks for that. Last time I ordered them I forgot to write down the part numbers - doh!

When I went looking, I found 4 different ones but no way to tell them apart. As it is, the new ones I'm waiting to come in from Japan are probably the earlier model ones so I have to cancel that order tomorrow.

With 9.2:1 comp and 18-19psi of boost, we didn't have any problems with the head gasket, just the bore so I figured we should use the same style gaskets again.

    Thanks for the info Glenn.

another thing dave ,your red top .is it still set up in in fwd or rwd as in water set up .are you taking water from the back of head to go to the radiator ,or have you blocked back and taken water from where the alternator bracket is ,as this is the rwd out let .this will determine what head gasket you get as the water holes are set up different in the 560 and 570 gaskets

We've got a header tank on the alternator bracket hole with a custom water pipe into the front of the motor where the water pump normally mounts. The back of the head is blocked off.
The water pump and extra plumbing has been removed due to external electric water pump to reduce weight/complexity. The oil pump has also been removed from the cam pulley system.

I know that this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I've marked up the difference between the FWD and RWD head gaskets used in the Altezza (RWD - 88570) and the east west configuration (88560) used in Caldina's and other FWD cars.

If nothing else I should be able to find it again in a year when I forgot where I put it :-)

If anyone needs a FWD MLS head gasket for a 3sge/gte, let me know I've got a couple that I'm not using at the moment

On the marked up drawing, the base photo is the FWD 88560 gasket and the Red markings are additional holes that are in the RWD but not in the FWD, and the green are holes that are different in the RWD. The green crosses mean that the holes aren't there in the RWD gasket. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks to Glenn for his help in figuring some of this stuff out. Hopefully it may make someone elses life a little easier than mine
