maybe the oil level sensor? i have pulled my 1j apart many times and not seen it.
Hey All,
I recently completed (99% anyway) swapping my old busted 1J for a new one. In doing this i've managed to come out with only ONE PLUG that I can't find a location for.... hoping you guys can help
The plug sits on the intake side of the engine and is quite long, so it could really end up anywhere. When bringing it straight out the top to take photos it hangs around near the dip stick
Pics below
Thanks in advance for your help!

Don't know if this helps
The red square is where it currently sits. I'm not sure if it plugs into something up top, or down the bottom
I believe the wire originates from the mass that drops out below the intake plenum, but can't get my hands in there far enough to pinpoint. As i said, its quite long. I can have it hanging out of the bottom of the car if i want.

Heater Tap VSV ?

if it drops out below the intake plenum...it connects to one of the sensors on the block or sump.
The heater tap one comes from the loom that goes into the inside of the car IIRC.

i read throught this and the other thread where you mentioned it; i have no direct experience but a thought occurs - could it be one of the many plugs that actually isnt going to be connected to anything that you have? there are always excess plugs, even on stock setups.
the only thing disagreeing with this theory is that its quite long, as you say, and superfluous plugs are not normally so significant
still, what i would suggest is, fire it up and see what doesnt work / what's different, then you might have a better idea

from memory, the oil level plug is a single prong thing. So are the knock sensors AFAIK (also down that way)
start it and see what doesn't work like jaemus said![]()
Reverse light switch? (Is new loom / engine OEM manual vs Auto perhaps?)
BTW Chris, Oil level is 2 pinSo it could be that too... there are 'small' and 'large' oil level sender plugs too I've noticed...
Cheers

just looking on my jza70 loom, my plug has a bracket further up the loom that looks like it should bolt to the starter/bell bolt.....im guessing its the reverse light switch plug also.
oil level is a female type plug...... knock sensors are also female type plug,![]()
Looks similar to the Heater VSV....also like my reverse light wires plug

Hmm, well mine were working before I swapped engines, so it must be there somewhere!
I'll let you know when i find it
thanks for all the help fellas!

That does look really similar to it, and it also looks about the same length. Where is the female end of that plug?Originally Posted by IN 05 NT

The Female end is what you have taken a picture ofOriginally Posted by Danners
I assume you mean male end!
The Male end comes out of the reverse light switch on the side of the gearbox!
