    Default RA25... noises??

The only other problem I'm having at the moment is that when there is a change of direction, i.e going from reverse to 1st, or when the front suspension is compressed, like under sudden breaking, or driving over a speed hump, there is a clunking noise, as though something moves a bit and then stops, comes just once every now and then. I'm guessing there is movement somewhere, my guess was the control arm or ball joint. Any other ideas?

    Hi,

Where is the clunk coming from, the front or the rear? Left or right side, or not sure?

If you drive slowly.. say 30kph and gently accelerate for a second or two and then back off the accelerator, do you hear a clunk? If so, then its probably your universal joints that are worn... or could be gearbox or diff slack.

its front, definately right but also heard a slight noise from the left. I don't think its gear box or diff.... my first thought was tail shaft but its too far forward.

    Hi,

Front right? Where you mention in another thread about the brake noise from that corner?

Then I'd be checking the wheel bearing is sitting properly and has been tightened to the correct specs, check the calipers are bolted in place, and the pads are in place and properly secured.

Also, you mentioned in the other thread that you purchased new front disc rotors? Did you get RA25 ones, or did you get a TA22 unit? My EPC is not with me, so I cannot check to see if the TA22 and RA25 used the same rotors.

Should be the same, motors only differ.

    Hi,

Cool, thanks for that. So, if you bought a TA22 rotor all cool... if you bought a 23/28 rotor then maybe you've got probs.

Anyway, tell me... I assume this 25 is the one you have on sale at CarSales?

    http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/TOYOTA/CELICA/details.aspx?R=6641245&keywords=ra25&Model=CELICA& __Ntk=CarAll&__Nne=20&__Dx=mode+matchany&Make=TOYO TA&__D=ra25&seot=0&silo=1003&__Ntx=mode+matchallpa rtial&__sid=11E5FD32B7A1&__N=4294962861+1216+834+2 85+257+4294962171&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int 32|1||pCar_ImageCount_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDa te_DateTime|1&distance=25&Cr=0&__Ntt=ra25&trecs=1

Hehehe, why did you put in TA22 as the title? Is that a mistake or does Carsales only have set models and you had you choose one?

    And, umm... $30K

That's a hefty price for an old Celica, even one that has been rebuilt, but I wish you luck and hope you sell it for what you want....... 'cos if you do, that means mine is worth $50k+

check wheel bearing as our enlightened senior citizen mentioned, and also check the springs are seated properly.. if they're shifting around they'll make a bit of a clunk

oh, and good luck at $30k ... ($20k is a lot closer to what it's worth)

I'm with Draven on Springs as the culprit - probably not being captive & moving around.

Lower control arm balljoints, or rubber bushes worn(flopping around inside x-member)?
    Front radius rod bushes worn/loose?
Wrong inserts in strut, inserts moving within housing/not tight enough? (one of the nuts on mine worked loose)
Brake caliper(floating part)spring tensioners not installed properly?
    Engine mount loose/worn

and many more to check if i can think of em
